They very different under the skin; v4 uses a parametric skeletal system; while the genesis line uses I believe the triax system. The thing that is important to remember here is if you ever want to move into creating morphs or unique characters, there are excellent rigging/skeleton transfer tools in DAZ that work best with genesis. So you might focus your attention there.
I primarily use v4 because of my investment in v4 content; and the content available. But as a new user knowing what I know now i would take a long look G3 which I believe has the 2nd largest content library. And G1 autofit tools work well on most v4 clothing content. While G2F G3F content will generally not work on Vicki. Which might limit what you can use with charactors, based on these given actors.
