Making non-iray props and environments to iray
in The Commons
Is it possible to make non-iray props and environments to iray? There are a lot of great environemnts and props out there that are non-iray and using them means that the whole artwork must be rendered in 3delight even the iray characters. Are thre ways to make these non-iray props and environments to iray?

On the scene tab, select the items that do not have iray shaders
On the Surfaces tab, select the items that do not have Iray shaders
(You can hold down the CTRL button on a PC to multi-select. Or whatever the equivalent is on a Mac)
Under Shader Presets->Iray->Daz Uber click on !Iray Uber Base
This will set everything to a base Iray shader, which you can then adjust as needed
In addition to what DaWaterRat said, once you've converted everything to the Iray base shader, you might want to set the Base Color for all the mats to a light grey, and turn up the Glossy Roughness. That seems to take care of most of the blown out and over glossiness that a lot of older environments have if you just use the base shader. I've only been back to DS and Iray for a couple of months and those were two tricks I wish I'd known early on.
Also, when tweaking the materials and previewing them in IRAY, make another camera, use it and set the headlamp to off. I was converting Stonemason's Walled City and spent an hour tweaking textures that were rendering an overblown white and I couldn't fix 'em until I did that.
Already did it, nothing's happening still black in the viewport.
One thing that will not work in Iray is a physical mesh skydome, unless it is converted to an emitter. Easier to just remove it from the scene, it is stopping the iray dome light from lighting your scene if everything is rendering black.
Yup that's what I found out lol, there was a dome in the environment that's covering the outside environment. By the way I know this is not what the question is about but is there a way to only sahde for example the body skin and not the eyes using the NGS Revolution? When I click it, it shades everything.
A lot of characters have separate eye colors, and therefore have material files to change the eyes only. If this is the case, then the easiest option is convert that character to NGS as normally, and then use the eye material files to reset the eyes to the original shaders
