noobie question: how do you do simple light shadow removal?

Am doing a render of a character in front of a wall and a normal distant light shining a few feet away from her but as expected her shadow shows on the wall behind her. Is there a way to remove her shadows at all from the wall?

If you are rendering in 3Delight you can switch off shadows. You can either stop a figure from casting shadows or you can stop a light from casting shadows. If you do it for the figure don't forget to do it for her clothes and hair as well.

To switch off shadows for a figure go to the display section in the parameters tab and set cast shadows to off. To switch off shadows for a light go to the Light section in the parameters tab and set Shadow Type to None.

If you are rendering in Iray I don't think you can switch off shadows. Iray is designed to be as realistic as possible so it doesn't let you do tricks like that. You can try using fill-in lights to soften the shadow. something like a spotlight coming from the side, aimed to hit the wall but not the figure will lighten the shadow but won't remove it complelty.
