  • ok i downloaded this to make my ideas come to life only problem it does not have the proper tools needed to make your own ideas.   where are the basic to the program i used 3d build on my computer made some stuff i want to bring to life. but cant. what do i have to download to  design my own from scratch then import it to daz 3d studio to beable to create my own 3d world. it would be easier if i had all the tools need to make everything from scratch all on one software.    keep what you have going but incorperate a software where you design your own stuff then we can use the daz 3d to make it come alive..... befor i can make it come alive i have to design it... i want to make my own places my own creatures....  not using already made stuff.

                                                                                                thank you daz employees

ps... im a beginner your program is easy to use but you need to allow people to build there own ideas not just having predesigned stuff..  i wish could load my stuff on daz 3d from my microsoft 3d build program you would understand what i mean.

    You need a modeling progrom.

    Blender is free

Carrara can also do all you want

    http://www.daz3d.com/carrara-8-5-pro

    Thats a couple

  • Studio is meant to primarily allow you to use pre-created objects, whether from the Daz store or things you make in a modeling program.  Along with Carrara already mentioned, there are free programs such as Blender and others that you can purchase such as Hexagon (from Daz) or many other programs.

    You need a modeling program:

Blender (free, immensely feature rich, time consuming to learn), Wings (free, simple, fairly easy to learn), Hexagon (Cheap, simple-ish, fairly easy to learn, convinient bridge to Daz Studio, prone to crashing), Sculptris (Free, fast and fun to learn, polycount can get out of hand easily), Marvelous Designer (Expensive, like virtual sewing and patern designing, great dynamic draping, finished mesh can be kinda messy but it works, not too hard to learn, no need to UV map - it does it automatically)

    You need a texturing program:

Gimp (free, very similar to Photoshop, don't know its ease of use), Substance painter (pricey but has a monthly rent to own option that's not bad. very feature rich, somewhat time consuming to learn) Blacksmith3d (mid range price, paints in 3D over seams (can do UV mapping too), medium difficulty, best when used in combo with a traditional 2D painting program)

You need a UV mapping program:

Blender and Hexagon both have UV tools built in, I don't know about the other modeling programs I listed.  Blender's is pretty good from what I hear, Hexagon's is pretty terrible.

UV Mapper (free or inexpensive for more features, pretty basic but gets the job done, fairly easy to learn), UV Layout (mid price point, tons of features, easy to learn if you can memorize hot-keys quickly)

I use: Hexagon, Marvelous Designer, Z-Brush, UV Layout, UV Mapper (yes, both), Photoshop (with Fliter Forge plug in), Substance Painter, and Blacksmith3D.

How about giving the new gentleman (or lady) some REAL direction?  All you've done is name a few programs and left him or her hanging.

OK, then, Fossil, how about this. Microsoft 3D Builder is a program for creating or editing models for 3D printing, not for rendering 2D images or animations in applications like DAZ Studio. The meshes are built completely differently and cannot be easily converted. Thus, as the others have stated, one needs a 3D modelling program that is designed to produce meshes that are in turn designed to work with 3D rendering programs, and they have kindly offered suggestions or examples of such programs that he/she can investigate. The closest thing at a reasonable cost that is capable of doing everything as the poster asks, is actually one of those mentioned repeatedly: Blender, which is free.

I believe that everyone has made a reasonable effort to address the questions asked.

OK, then go to YouTube and search for Darren Lile Blender tutorials. He has a donate button if you like. They are organized and inclusive for modeling in Blender from beginning to end. And their is also cgcookie.com but that will require at least a one month subscription.

You should best download the videos because learning those things is very tedious and time-consuming.

Thanks for the shout-out, Fisty! :)

    Here's my tutorial/FAQ index on dA: http://sickleyield.deviantart.com/journal/SickleYield-Tutorial-And-FAQ-Index-624150816

I have some tutorials on YouTube (link in my sig) that address content creation starting in Blender as well.
