prevent reflection from specific object

I have a plane in a scene which I am trying to prevent from reflecting in a character's eyes. I need the other objects in scene to reflect, just not the plane. I also need the plane for shadows of objects on the plane, so I don't want to just remove or hide plane.  

Any suggestions on how to prevent this specific plane from reflecting in character's eyes while allowing others to reflect? Thank you for any advice.

    Iray or 3Dlight?

    I don't think it can really be done in Iray. In 3Dlight, select the plane and then in the Parameters Pane (Tab), select "Display" and set "Visible in Render"  to "off".

  • @glaseye - thanks for the reply. I am using 3Delight.

    Your suggestion does hide plane in final render, but I need plane to be visible in render.

    What I'm trying to do is prevent that specific plane from being a reflection in my character's eyes (v4). I need other reflections to show in the character's eyes, but not that plane.

    Oops, I guess I misunderstood the question (I need a refresher course in English cheeky ). I thought you just needed the shadow of the plane...  Have never tried what you want in DS, so I'm afraid I can't tell for sure, but again I think this specific render setting does not exist in 3Dlight,

    (it would require a setting equivalent to poser's "visible in raytracing" setting, there that can be turned on/off for each individual object)

  • I'm no DS expert by any means, but my guess is that if it's possible to have one surface not reflect on another surface, this will likely be through a shader setting. 

    I've been going through different add-on shaders such as Ubersurface, Subsurface Base Shader, Human Surface Base, and a couple others. I've seen where some surfaces can exclude receiving refections, but no setting yet for excluding the transmission of a reflection. 

    Maybe there is neat shader out there that has this feature?

    Or maybe this just isn't possible in DS?
