Can't add material

I purchased the "Forsaken Village And Construction Set. By Artist DzFire."

I load the latern prop, then when I try to add the "Lantern Lit" material I get this message, "An error occured while reading the file, see the log file for more detail."

I would upload the Log file so you can see what it says but I don't know where to find the Log file.

What do I do to fix this?

Have you selected the latern prop in the Scene tab before applying the material setting?

  • Yes. After I put the lantern in the scene I make sure it is selected before I try to add the material.

  • Ok, I'm not able to edit anything now. So now have a new question. If I uninstall something I have purchased will I be able to re-install it or will I lost forever?

It depends on where you stored the files for the stuff you bought. Generally uninstalling something just means you're removing it from your content folder, but the stored product files will still be on your computer, somewhere. If you're using DIM to uninstall your content and you bought it from DAZ, then you should be able to reinstall it.

  • If I uninstall something I have purchased will I be able to re-install it or will I lost forever?

Even if you didn't save the installer in the first place, you can always re-download it from your Product Library page. Everything you've ever bought (even if you "bought" it for free) will always be available there. If you install using DIM then the uninstalled item moves from the "Installed" list to the "Ready to Download" list.

The two Lantern Materials are Hierarchical material presets.  Select the Village group in the scene tab and apply one of the Lantern material presets to make all of the lanterns either lit or un-lit.

Lindsey, I was trying to add just one lantern post into my scene and not using the Village Group. I didn't know it had to load the Village group.

I made a scene with just a couple houses and wanted to use just one lantern post, Is there anyway I can put just one lantern post in my scene and add the Lantern lit material?

Sorry, slightly high jacking your thread.  Would everyone that reads this please send a ticket to support asking that Vendors stop using the pain the rear hierarchical presets.

  • Hierarchical presets can be very useful.

All the props with fire in it already come pre-lit. ;)

I agree with Richard, hierarchical presets are very useful. I'm sorry to hear that you're finding them less so. What in particular are you finding annoying about them?

You'll need to create the two Material Presets for the lanternpost model.

    1. Load the Villiage.duf preset.  Lanterns will be OFF.
    2. In Scene tab, select the lanternpost model. It will have a little 3d cube icon to the left of the name.
    3. File>Save As>Material(s) Preset. Give the file window a file location and a file name for the material preset.
    4. Next screen, with all materials selected by default, click Accept.
    5. With the Villiage group selected in the Scene tab, Apply the Lantern Lit material preset. Lanterns will be "on".
    6 Repeat steps 3 and 4

These two material presets will work when a single lanternpost model is selected.
