Sort of OT: Anyone know where I can find a tutorial for MD?...

...to make a Genesis 3 avatar for it? I found a couple but there's not much step by step about them. Since I've never used MD in my life, I kind of need the extra hand-holding...lol.

Any help greatly appreciated :).

Laurie

Have you seen SickleYield's YouTube videos? Here's one of them. She has more. I'm not sure which might address your avatar task, but I think this one shows it.

    1) Pose G3 in DAZ studio

    2) Export from DAZ Studio as a wavefront object (.obj) file specifying measurements in cm.

    3) Import the wavefront object file into MD using file/open/avatar, again specifying measurements in cm.  (The latest version of MD, version six, is very DAZ friendly in this respect. I've not used the earlier versions so I can't speak for those.)

    Cheers,

    Alex.

Does it automatically assign the bounding things and those dots? Sorry, I'm not up on my MD terminology yet. LOL

Unfortunately not.  You will have to add the bounding volumes and arrangement points manually.  In MD6, this is done using  Avatar/Avatar Editor/Arrangement.

    1) Create a bounding volume by clicking on the + symbol above the left pane.

    2) Adjust the size and proportions using the height, radius x and radius y controls

    3) Position the bounding volume by clicking on it and manipulating the gizmo

    Adding  the arrangement points

    1) Create an arrangement point by clicking on the + symbol above the right pane.

    2) Add it to the bounding volume using the arrangement BV list box.

    3) Adjust the position of the arrangement point by using the x y and offset controls.

It's actually quite simple with a little practice and fumbling. If you are used to the DAZ Studio equivalent of the MD gizmo, it will be a lot easier.

Lori Griffiths beginners video is an excellent place to start learning MD

    These will also be useful

Lori's book, "Understanding Marvelous Designer" is also a wise investment.

Instructions and bounding volumes from ShareCG all worked! Thanks a million, all of you :)

  • @Laurie - Let me know how you get on with the book you ordered - On Amazon it was 3-5 Week delivery for me so I did not order as it is such a long time & I am impatient but as I don't watch video the book might still be the way to go

I actually got a surprise and got it today - reading it now - wasn't supposed to arrive until tomorrow. We have prime, so that may have had something to do with the quick delivery, I dunno ;). I got the book because this program is so different than anything else I've ever used, I thought maybe the videos wouldn't be enough since I'm going to have to have a reference to look things up when I get stuck...hehe. Hard to do with a video. It's pretty darn thick. I better dig out my readers and hunker down. LOL. Doesn't have a disc, but the author has files for projects from the book on her website.

BTW, if I can ever come close to duplicating the dress on the cover I'll be one happy camper. LOL.
