2 vs 4 cpu cores on a mac

I have to use a Mac for other reasons and was wondering if DS takes advantage of multicore CPUs ...  do 4 core CPU Macs render faster than their 2 core counterparts?

Yes, both Iray and 3Delight are multi-threaded on both Windows and Mac.
