Adobe Project Felix (New 3D Software)

Has ayone seen this software?  It's marketed more for graphic designers/creatives that would like to interact more with 3D in their designs and still integrate well with Photoshop.  Looks like a stripped down version of DAZ Studio with drag and drop texture replacement (if you watch the promo video, you'll see what I mean).

Good luck with it. See the system requirements: https://helpx.adobe.com/beta/project-felix/system-requirements.html

Only supports Windows 10 and Mac 10.10 (Yosemite) or higher version.

It is a 3D software, but it seems very basic, not like Daz Studio at all.

Every once and a while Adobe tosses a new 3D solution into the marketplace. Usually they're designed for things like extruding text -- which face it, is something very much in demand. Is this what Adobe Fuse turned into? That seemed to be about character generation.

  • I think with most new Adobe products in the 3D space, they are focussing more towards quickly getting an idea/concept to a prototype rather than throwing a Blender on the face of 2D artists. Their approach seems to give more priority for ease-of-use over feature completeness.

That and the inevitable evolution of Adobe Stock into a 3D content marketplace (models, materials and lights).

This looks like it would good for advertising copy and the like.  It does look a lot simpler than Daz.  Interesting...

  • It looks like it is using Chaos Group's V-Ray renderer http://www.prweb.com/releases/2017/01/prweb13969105.htm

They only showed using pre-made shaders in the teaser video, I wonder how much of the shader settings they will surface to the user.

Ok, this V-Ray renderer make it more interesting. I wonder, how Daz 3D models will look in Project Felix.

It looks like there is only a predefined library of materials, but may be there is an option to add custom ones, as well.

  • One question:  Is it free or is it $60 per month?

I avoid Adobe software, strictly because of the endless monthly charges..  That plus EVERYTHING they sell in the creative arts realm can be replaced by a less expensive solution.

I hope I don't get charged for it as it never said that when downloading and installing it via the Adobe Updater app.

Could you please post some render of Daz character or cloth rendered in Project Felix, if you will get it to work.

LOL.  I just downloaded it and installed it because it appeared to be free.  I've not even opened it yet, I'm in the middle of figuring out how to get Dawn's eyes to look more to my liking to worry about this Adobe thing.  Plus it's still in beta so they probably won't charge for this until it's in it's final release...

Looks like it might work if I had a windows 10 machine working.   Maybe I can look into it more next month or March if it is still in Betta.
