Alternate MATs

While things like lipstick/makeup are generally just another skin material option, I'm curious about some of the more creative options like swapping out tattoos and such. Sometimes it's another whole face or torso from when I've looke at the textures but other times it seems to be just an overlay of sorts. How exactly is this accomplished?

If it's an overlay, then it's likely to be using the LIE (Layered Image Editor)...

LIE used to be an 'add-on' in DS3 days. One of those where you could use presets without it, but couldn't edit them. Now in the DS4.x series the Editor is included...so you can edit instead of just using presets.

To access it, look under the particular area of the Surfaces pane...say Skin_face. The Diffuse (where the texture image is loaded) will have a little drop down box allowing you to change the image. One of the options is Layered Image Editor...if you click on that option, it will open the editor allowing you to add a layer and so on...
