Most recently used?

Is there some kind of "most recently used" hidden section in DS? So many times, I decide I want to change the make-up or hair color on a character and it's so many steps to get back to where I need to find it. If not, it would make a great addition to future versions...

Not the same, but you can right click on the file and create a custom action which will place it in the scripts dropdown for repeated use.

Well, I don't want it permanently, just if I change my mind on the current scene. It's something they should consider. In the drop down menu in smart content you can sort by newest purchased but it would be great to add most recently used..

I'll usually just go in and directly change the texture using the surfaces tab.  In part, that's because I have a particular setting for skins and hair that isn't usually one of the defaults any more (or in the case of skin, at all), and using the material setting that comes with the product requries redoing that as well as finding it again. (You can tell DS not to change maps, but not to not change other surface settings.)

I mean, if for example I'm testing out a specific character and after putting clothes on her, posing, lighting, I decide I want to change her make up texture, I have to go to default, figures, people, realistic, and find that character, it's a pain to look for if you have a lot of characters. I want to use her existing makeup, not create my own in DS...

I would agree that probably the easiest thing to do would be to change the texture in the surface tab, since it defaults to the texture folder containing that skin and presumably all the other makeup options.

  • I'd love to see a way to force the content browser to organize icons by creation date or by alphabet or as you suggested, most recently accessed date.

It probably takes longer to switch out the surface tabs than search back to the original item for one click. But when I'm creating a scene, I'd like to have all the recently used items in one place, it would make things so much easier.

Let's see (granted I have my Surfaces tab available to me all the time, so if you have to go to tabs and open it, that's a few more steps)

    • Select surfaces tab.
    • Expand G3F
    • Expand Default Templates
    • Select Template 1 (that's the face, lips, and nostrils)
    • Click on Diffuse texture.
    • Click on Browse - Ah, there's all the textutes for this particular skin set opened up for me.
    • Double Click on the one with the makeup I want.

    vs searching for the character

    • Select Smart Content Tab (assuming "Filter by Context" is clicked, and default is by product, rather than by file)
    • Select Materials
    • Select Feminine
    • Double Click on the character product
    • Double Click on the makeup

So, no.  Not that much longer.  2 extra steps.  1 if you have to change from by file to by product.  Plus possibly more scrolling here if you have a lot of characters, or have to look at several to remember which one you're using (for me, all the pretty fair skinned girls start to blur after a while.  The other reason I use the surfaces tab.  That tells me what character I'm using (by looking at the name of the folder where the files are located.)

That said, what you're asking for would be nice, I'm not actually disputing that.  Especially to have it by product, rather than by file (or both), so you can add and remove stuff faster.

    Greetings,

There's a 'Back' button on the Content Library, if that helps...  Since I do almost everything from within the CL, I use the Back button pretty extensively to go back to clothes, hair, or character that I left to change a Shader Preset...
