Best way to handle continuous crashing?
I have a Windows 8 computer, Processor is Intel Core i54210u CPU 1.70ghz 2.40ghz, 8gb RAM, 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor, 807gb free of 910gb on C-drive
I have a 2TB external harddrive, USB 2 i think.
DAZ is the biggest thing I have on my computer with Photoshop/anything similar at less than 2gb anywhere else. All my DAZ content is at 33.8gb and is entirely installed on my computer. I have been having an increasing problem of the program crashing after I import several items into a sceen or apply a few shaders onto a single item. If I continously save after a few steps, I can keep working, but even if I undo what I just did, and add one more shader the system will crash and I have to start from the last saved point. I'm assuming that I'm going past my computer limits with certain things taking up a lot of memory that is causing this to happen. And with the recent freebies, this issue will only get worse.
I came upon this thread that may help me http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/40915/moving-library-to-external-hard-drive but i would like to know if there is any other ways I can fix this crashing issue. I would also like to know what is the difference between the installation folder and application folder in Install Manager as I'm not sure if changing the paths would make a difference.

I don't know the solution to your crashing and somebody else will need to address that, however FYI I think you might be confusing memory with disk usage. Owning (but not using) more content shouldn't cause crashes, since the content is stored on your hard drive and is not loaded into memory unless you actually use it (other than whatever the content library might need to manage your lists, but that presumably will be negligible). So that should not be a concern, and changing paths won't affect the crash issue if it's memory related. Think of your hard drive as a bunch of file cabinets, and your memory as your desktop. If you pull too much out of the file cabinets and stack it on your desk, it won't fit, but if you only use a few things at a time on your desk it doesn't matter how many file cabinets you have.
I suspect the crashing maybe lack of RAM as 8GB does not give you much space to work with more than 1 thing.
I have 1 G3 & some clothing loaded (no hair) and that uses 3.4GB with Firefox & other things in addition to Daz I am using 8GB of RAM already once I open Photoshop that pushes it over 8GB without doing anything special which is OK for me as I have 32GB to work with.
The Installation folder in DIM is the path you want your content to go to
The Application Folder is where you want the actual program to be installed
I do not think an external drive would help here and it would be better to spend money on more RAM but someone else may chime in with better suggestions
