New Video Card- not rendering HELP!

Had a new video card installed today so I could Iray render quicker. Was using a Nvidia GTX560. Now I have Nividia GTX1060 3G. The computer says its working propperly and I have the most recent driver (Guy at the computer store installed it for me.) When I render with CPU, it does fine, but slow of course. When I choose to render with the new 1060, I get nothing but a quick checker board. I'm running windows 10 64 bit and Daz 4.9. Any help would be appreciated.

It rendres in CPU mode but when I have the "GeForce GTX 1060 3GB" selected. Which is why I bought the new card! PLEASE help, anyone!

Only the beta version has support for the 10-series gpus at this point. I'm expecting the current beta may go to release yet this year, but no guarantees.

Here is the log file from my last attempt. Just trying to render a ball on a plane with a plane above emitting a light. All have Iray shaders. Again renders fine with the CPU but I get nothing from my band new video card. Any help?

Wait, what? I got a card that will not work with 4.9???

It works (apparantly) with the latest 4.9 beta. Eventually that will become a general release but you can use it now. You may need to update your driver but since it's a brand new cutting edge card, probably not.

This isn't DAZ's fault, the architecture of the 10xx series cards is different and wasn't compatible with older versions of IRAY, a new version was released which was compatible and DAZ put that beta out right away as soon as they could. Beta thread is here:  http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/95436/daz-studio-pro-beta-version-4-9-3-153-release-candidate-4-updated#latest

Thank you Grinch. I appreciate your help. So any special directions before I try the BETA? The screen on your link to it sort of scares the heck out of me. Don't wanna loose my stuff.

If you install it to run side-by-side, it shouldn't affect your current install.

  • grinch2901grinch2901 Posts: 1,247

I agree with mjc1016, the beta does not overwrite the offical relase version or the content folders. You can have both running on the same computer because they install to different locations unlike updates to the official release. There are beta-specific versions of many of the plugins too (GoZ, Decimator, dynamic cloth control, etc) so make sure you put those in your install queue too.

I have the beta, haven't used it much because I don't have a fancy new card but if I did I would be on it in a hearbeat!

  • Wait, what? I got a card that will not work with 4.9???

Don't feel badly, I did the bonehead move months ago right before the beta even came out...

I ended up sending back my 2x 1060s and buying two 980TI GTXs and it works great. I am waiting to see everybody else's results with it before I dual up on a 10xx card. Your only option for now as far as I know is to use the public beta of DAZ until the bugs get worked out.

Thanks for the information, everyone. Much appreciated. So anyone using the Beta? How's it going? Should I expect any headaches? Never "Beta tested" before. Nervous....

I've installed the beta to use my new Pascl-baed gfx card and the only issue was setting up the workspace (layout, tabs, etc.) SO long as you set up your patch correctly uou can jsut use your existing libraries without issue.

When you say "patch" do you mean from the Beta thread? Simon, thankyou for your time and help.

Actually it is Daz's fault. Because people are not being informed of this situation. The front page that lists PC requirements does not list this extremely important little detail, and people are buying these cards thinking they will just work. Unless you visit the forums on a frequent basis, you would have no idea that you must use the beta to use the 1000 series cards. Its only common courtesy to list this disclaimer to avoid confusion...and angry customers. But I guess that's just too much to ask for.

I think that's a typo for 'path'; the only thing the beta shares with the release is the content database, so you need to go into directory management and add any content directories you've got above and beyond the defaults.

Sure wish I would have known that before I ran off to buy my card. Tried the Beta but all my old poser stuff is not accessable. This kinda sucks.

The beta does not inherently know' your content paths. Go to he content tab -> options (the little 3-line and triangle block), click on it, and select 'Content Directory Maintenance'. Then define the paths to your content, both Studio and Poser.

  • Make sure you update to the latest Video drivers at the Nvidia site first! If your system can handle 2 video cards I would keep the 560 to handle the monitor and use your new 1060 in a secondary slot to do rendering. Just know if you use it for both rendering and your monitor the system will use up video ram to run desktop video and that will not be available for your renders. Don't be surprised if the program is a little wonky after a few renders there are bugs in the beta. Also if you render from under the 3D Plane it will not render. Just a heads up. Happy Holidays

Until Daz Studio FULLY supports the 1000 series cards (betas don't count,) it is only proper to add this detail on the requirements page for DS. It can say that the 1000 series is supported in beta and that they are hard at work adding full support to DS. Give people some warning.

What happens if someone already has a Pascal card, and just wants to try Daz for the first time? This person installs Daz only to find it doesn't function. They may not bother searching the forums for an answer, they might think its crappy software and just abandon DS instead. That's a lost customer! It would seem like a very simple thing to update the page. The store gets updated every single day, sometimes multiple times a day, but we can't get the requirements updated with a few additional words of text??? It doesn't seem like it would be that hard. Millions of Pascal gpus have been sold, but I guess Daz doesn't mind aggravating them.

This is not the first thread where a customer was confused by the lack of Pascal support. Confusing your customers is not usually a good business strategy. Just a thought.

Is someone from Daz going to respond to this? How about an update on when Daz proper might support Pascal? Who do we need to contact to get the page updated?

I sure don't want to bash Daz. Its been a very enjoyable hobby and has aided in some fun comicbook creation. I was just excited to move ahead and try the new Iray and Gen 3 stuff. I surely would have waited to get the video card if I had known that the 1060 would not run Iray in Studio. Its been very disappointing. I am not Dazzy enough to figure out how to get all my old poser format stuff to work in the Beta. When I upgraded to 4.9, I was thrilled that all my content was exactly where it had been in 4.7 and all my scenes still loaded. Not the case in the Beta, so now I'm back to where I was minus a few hundred bucks.

So anyone know if there is a release coming soon that will support the 1000 series?

I use it all the time. It's great. Plus, it has some new cool features with the lens like spherical cameras for VR and HDRI image creation. There's a pinned topic in the DAZ discussions section of the forums if you want to see a full list of changes. There's some cool stuff in there. And it runs side by side with the official release no problem. As others said, you just have to tell it where your content folders are again. Not really a big deal.

Nothing has changed with the way Studio addresses content libraries, simply add the libraries in you old Studio's Content Directory Manager to the beta version's.

I hope they release this soon.  I bet there's lots a lot more 1070s, etc. out there after the holidays.

I'll check out the workaround above if I get desperate (edit: nvm... $295/yr.) but I'll probably just work on other hobbies for now :/

I use the beta all the time as well. I don't remember ever having any real problems with the beta versions since the 4.8 beta. It doesn't install over the regular version, so it shouldn't do anything to your current version. Almost all of the images in my gallery were done with the beta, I only use the regular version for Octane and a few other plugins (Octane would work with the beta, but this way I can open 2 instances of DS at the same time without opening two instances of Octane).

Did you have a previous version of the beta?

Have you upgraded your graphics drivers since installing the beta?

I did have the previous version of the beta and no did not upgrade driver since updating beta.  the last time I updated the video driver was to version 368.39 I tried one newer but had to revert to this one as the newer one wouldn't render at all.  Now I am d/l version 376.33 hopefully it will work.

  • mjc1016mjc1016 Posts: 15,001

The version of Iray in the current beta needs 37x version, I believe...there was something about the minimum driver version, but I can't remember the details, other than it needs to be newer.
