How to use Safyrana hair with V4

Hi.  The Safyrana hair product says it will work with V4, but when we add it to a V4 figure it doesn't fit properly -- the top of the hair is inside the figure's head.  In other words it looks like it's designed to work only with something later than V4.  Can anyone explain how to use it with V4?

Thanks...

One thing you should check (I don't have that hair myself), is whether there is a separate Poser format file for loading the hair on V4, as opposed to the DAZ format files. V4 is an older model and uses Poser formats, so that may be the issue. Under Poser Formats in your content library, you should find it either under Hair if it is in .hr2 format, or Pose if it is in .pz2 format - or do a search looking for one or the other formats. Failing that, hair is one of the easier things to fit manually as a prop, in which case:

Select the hair, then look under the parameters tab - translations. Adjust the hair upwards using the Y translation slider until it sits properly on the head (you may need to also tweak the translation forward or back along the Z axis as well, or you may get lucky). Worst case scenario you may also need to tweak the scaling as well for an ideal fit. Once it is fitted the way you want, parent it to V4's head with the "parent in place" option checked. If you wish, you could save the fit as a preset to avoid having to adjust it each time you use it.

Edit: checking the product description, I see that the V4 version is in Poser .cr2 format, which means you'll find it under figures. (And yes, it would be nice if content creators stuck to conventions).

  • Are you sure you are loading the Victoria 4 version, not the Genesis 2 Female version?

  • Thanks for the responses.  I looked in all the folders you suggest (in fact, all the folders there are) and didn't find any additional files for loading.  There is only one version I can find anywhere to load, and that appears to be the Genesis version.  I cannot find a V4 version.

  • According to the readme it will be in the Content Library pane under, assuming you installed to the My Daz 3d Library folder, be in Poser Formats>My Daz 3D Library>Hair>DAZ Victoria 4>OOT Safyrana Hair. Replace hair with Materials for the materials files. The Victoria 4 version is a separate installer.

  • Thanks.  I appreciate your persistance, but it just isn't there.  There's an installer for genesis where you specify, but nothing for V4.  There IS a materials folder labeled "Safyrana V4", however, and it can be used to change the color of the genesis hair.  I even uninstalled and reinstalled the product, but that didn't help.

I was able to get the genesis hair to work with a V4 figure with a little fiddling, so I guess I'll just leave it at that.  I have to say that most of what I've seen for Daz is extremely poorly documented.  Maybe it works for people who spend a lot of time with it, but for beginners and more casual users, it's between hard and impossible to figure some of this out.

I do really appreciate your efforts, though.

  • You should have three installers for this product - one for Genesis 2 female, one set of PoserCompanion Files for the Genesis 2 Female version, and one for Victoria 4. If not, and you are looking in Install Manager, it may be an issue with the Download Filter settings (button on the Ready to Download tab).
