morphing in Poser 8

I am trying to make the ears on the Ryan figure elf-like using a magnet. (I have been successful once or twice before, but it won't happen now.) After creating the morph dial on the first ear, when I use the dial, the entire face distorts or the other ear distorts.

I have tried morphing using just the mag zone, as one tutorial suggested, and I have tried using the Grouping tool to select the part of the ear I want to change and then selecting that group in the Mag Zone Properties. This has worked before...

I have double-checked in the Wireframe mode to ensure nothing else was selected that shouldn't have been. I have tried morphing the ears before and after making other changes to the face, but it made no difference. I have also tried other Poser models.

I have run out of ideas. I know it's possible because I have done it before. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Have you tried using the morphing tool?
I find it easier to use than magnets.

Yes, but I want to do more than what they allow.

I'm not sure what is not allowed.
Maybe there are some limitations on Poser 8, it's been some years since I use that version.
    I don't find any limitaion with PP2012
