Is Daz 4.8 still available?

I've been reading up on 4.9 on different message boards and it scares me. I'd like to play with Genesis 3 (Still a V4 and M4 person) and maybe the new Iray, but there are many things I'm hearing about 4.9 that tell me "NO!" I am still used 4.7 and very much enjoy it. So any way of getting 4.8 or is there a way to get G3 into 4.7? Any advice or input would be appreciate. Thank you.

    DL this:

You can load g3 in 4.7, but there will be no Iray. Older versions are typically not available, but you could always install the current beta alongside 4.7:

    Hope this helps.

It would be nice to know what your fears are and whether the information you are finding is actually accurate...you don't have to go into specifics, but if you could, in a general way, explain what is it that you are hearing and what you are concerned with...

I have been using 4.8 for the longest and refused to move to 4.9 based on what I have read on the forums also, but did it a few weeks back and haven't noticed any issues whatsoever. i just renamed my DAZ content directory, uninstalled 4.8, then installed 4.9 and changed the name of my content directory back and everything works fine so far. keep in mind I don't use DIM, smart content or connect and install everything manually.

I've been hearing alot of problems with the Daz connect/cloud encrypted only products. Having Daz continually connected and needing encrytion codes sounds like a real hassel. Also, I very very much like how I have my content library set up. I can find what I need. I am very leary of screwing up something in my install and not having my stuff where it was. I heard a few people complain on another message board that all their old stuff vanished when they went to 4.9. Even if I save everything on my external drive, reinstalling all of it in the propper directory gives me much anxiety. Will I get it in the right drectory so all my old scenes load? Will I be able to find everything? I think I'm going to play it safe with my old friends for now. V4 and M4 are right there with all my stuff. Thanks for replying and your input. Much appreciated.

Thanks again for the link, Greg. I down loaded the G3 essentials. How well with G3 work in 4.7? Should I go ahead and get v7 and m7 bundles?

Well...most of that is FUD...all that is required for Connect to work is a one-time connection.  And that isn't even required if you don't want to use Connect.  Encrypted content does exist, but it's not 'evil' encryption that needs to be checked every time you start the program.  That's that one time Connect required connection.  That basically will allow you to use it on that machine, even offline. (there are even legit ways to use it on other machines, too...).  And it 'expires' 1 yr after release...the encryption, not the content.

As to the 'messing up my content'/it all disappeared.  Most of the time it was down to either not preppring for the migration from Valentina to PostgreSQL for the database management or the early version of 4.9.  And more often than not, the actual content was untouched...that is using the Content Library view.  The main requirement, if you have moved actual content files into a new directory structure is to properly map those directories/libraries/runtimes.  Out of the box, Studio really is only aware of the 'normal' directories...anything additional, you'll have to tell it where to find the stuff.

I mostly use 4.7 and for the last 4 or 5 months at least half my renders have been G3M plus some G3F and I have had zero issues with them.

    Yup, yup, yup, and... yup.

This is the way to go if you have concerns about 4.9. This is how i use it anyways.

I just changed over to 4.9 and I wnet into my computer settings and completely locked it down from my internet connection, so no more calling home for connect or anything in studio that felt it needed to call daz about. I also manually download and instal content to my content folders. Just make sure that you tell it not to connect the first time and click the little box that says "Do not ask again" and that SHOULD take care of your connect problems.

I use custom directories and they are still intact. As long as they are in your main content folder and not the runtime folder inside your content folder.

Thanks for the input. I know it probably is simple, but I know I'd screw it up. I'm still considering it, but I just don't have the time to reorganize my runtime if and when I screw it up. Its good to know that "connect" can be shut off and items still manually loading into daz.

So you had no propblems with your content? I have all my stuff in a "Poser Formats" directory (see attached). I just don't know if I could keep it all safe and then reinstalled like you did with out a mess up. Thanks for your advice.

Yes, it should be safe...but having everything in Poser format runtimes is not the most efficient and in some cases totally wrong thing to do.  There are some things the may not be found or work correctly if not in a Studio format set up.   What's more important is the way the files are on the hard drive, not how they show in the Content Library view...

If that My Library is in a folder named Runtime, there's a very good chance you have nesting issues and not all of your content is being found.
