Problems with Tutorial packs

I have bought a number of tutorial packs, which I found were basically worthless to me.

The main reason

I don't want to buy additional applications to use them.  I don't own 3dsmax, Marvelous designer, Maya or other applications that are favorites of some developers.

IMO, I will still buy them, but I want to know beforehand what applications are necessary to follow along and interactively learn.

You would think Daz3d, being as particular as they are...would require disclosures of the applications in the sales information.

Recently, Esha released a series on developing content.  She doesn't fully disclose in the information what is needed.

I don't blame her, since she is a constant content producer she probably has dozens of applications and just doesn't think much about what her customers own.

I don't watch Adobe Premier tutorials, because I use Vegas Pro.  It would not make sense.

Yes, Daz3d has a great return policy, but I suspect there are others like myself who would like to buy the tutorials when they are on sale.

Yet, it may be a month or more before you have time for the tutorials.

Anyway,  if I don't know what applications are required --- I am not buying any more tutorials, if I don't know what is required before I buy.

  • In many cases (not, perhaps, Marvellous Designer or the Substance tools but things like ZBrush/3DCoat/Blender or any modeller) you should be able to convert from one to the other. In the past I've found that converting the steps makes the actual lesson stick better.

I have also bought a couple of Esha's tutorials (because I like her items and bought many of them),

but bear in mind, that these are the records of a life webinar sessions. There are a lot of pauses to make the audience catch up with the presenter.

I have also noticed, that sometimes the audience does not know the basics of the programs being used during the session

(like how to add brushes to Photoshop) - http://www.daz3d.com/daz-studio-content-creation-mastery-part-7-ultimate-texture-creation

Such things just shorten up the already short tutorial presented.

    Hi there!

In my tutorials I try not to be tied to tightly to a specific program, wherever possible. Of course, some things are program-specific and for some programs, like Marvelous Designer, there is no replacement available currently. But in other cases you can easily use a similar program to get the same results, for example you could use Gimp instead of Photoshop.

Regarding the products I use in the tutorials:

Part 1: I use Wings3D (freeware), however the concepts I show are pretty generic and it's not a step-by-step tutorial; I show processes which can be replicated in any modeling software.

Part 2: This part concentrates on Marvelous Designer.

Part 3: I use UVLayout; depending on the capabilities of other software people might be able to replicate the processes in other UV mapping programs, too.

Part 4 & 5: Besides Daz Studio, I use Hexagon and ZBrush. Hexagon can be replaced by any other modeling application. ZB in my opinion is hard to replace, but I suppose 3DCoat or the new ZBrush Core would work, too.

    Part 6: same as Parts 4 & 5

Part 7: Photoshop, or any other 2D application that can handle masks and layers

Part 8: same as Part 7

In part 8 I reference some of my existing products, but I only use the promo renders to illustrate my explanations and to show why I set them up the way I did. It's not necessary to own those products to follow the tutorial.

    I hope this helps!
