Can't change OmUberSurface to iRay
When I load a figure, I always select its surfaces and apply the iray shader to get a better look when I render in iray.
For figures/props with the DAZ default shader, this is no problem. But when I load a figure with the OmUberSurface shader I can't apply the iray one. It just stays with its original shader.
Why is that?

Are you sure it isn't changing - are you looking at the label at the top of the Surfaces pane? Simply changing the shader doesn't do anything for the quality - DS swaps the shaders out at rendertime if you don't - though on scenes with many items, or when animating, there may be a speed gain on launching the render.
ok, it's done it now. I tried saving the scene and it seemed to fix it.
But are you saying I don't need to change all the shaders to iray when rendering in iray?! I always do that. Have I been wasting my time?
You always *should* do it. And no, you haven't been wasting your time. Rendering setup is faster without the automatic conversion, but far more importantly, with a proper Iray surface, you can then actually change the parameters and expect useful results. If you keep the 3DL surfaces, you have to accept whatever (often mediocre) conversion results you get.
great. thanks
I was saying only that if you stop after changing the shader you aren't gaining much (just a possible speed up at the start of each render of the scene, offset by the time taken to change the shaders). If you make changes to the shader settings, or apply a specific preset for the material used, to improve the result then you are gaining a lot over the basic auto-conversion.
yes. got you. I add the iray shader and then dial to taste. Thanks
