Mimic Live

Does Mimic Live for DS actually try to match the recorded audio phonemes to the viseme morphs or does it just cycle through random visemes? I tried saying "Oh" and it gives me F 77% TH 24% which is not anywhere close to the sound. Using Genesis 3 with th G3 dmc file.

I believe it makes an effort to match sounds to real visemes. I would guess that it's based on their older mimic-pro technology, which does a pretty good job with most phoneme streams, but can be hit/miss sometimes.
Given the minimal control you're given in the mimic-live interface, perhaps adjusting sound levels or different microphones or EQ adjustments might result in a more accurate response.
toolfarm.com sells the older standalone mimic-pro (made by daz a while back) that has a lot more control over the entire lipsync process, but you do have to bring things in it up to speed to get the genesis characters imported and 'sync'-d up with DMC files and the like, but it really lets you fine tune the entire process, and easily imports to the Daz Studio character timeline as a poser-style PZ2 file. It has deep poser format roots, but Studio handles those comfortably.
The DAZ mimic-lite product is a cheap 'lite' version that would give you a feel for the basics workflow you'd have using the pro version. Mimic-Pro also is available as a plugin for Carrara, if you use that tool, but some of the generic edit/save features of the original Mimic-Pro aren't included in the Carrara version, as they don't make as much sense within that app.
Iclone (there and back) might be another path to lipsync in DAZ, as it can import genesis, and has some good tools for lipsyncing (live/recorded), and then can be re-imported, but it's a bit of a trek to get it all working. There might be a way to use a native iclone character to generate the sync data and import/convert it to something DAZ can use.
good luck,
