Canvases not working in latest public beta? Also Spectral Rendering?

I cannot get Canvases to work properly in the latest public beta (4.9.3.128), it always just renders either blank or only the ground shadow. Is this a bug or did something change in how they work?

Also, what is Spectral Rendering? I noticed that tab in the Render Settings panel but the results looked the same when I rendered with it on. Thanks in advance.

edit: OK I might have found a solution to the Canvas problem; it apparently doesn't like long item names. When I renamed "Hongyu's Bikini for Victoria 7" to "bikini", it worked. Also turning off ground shadows improves the quality of the Canvas render.

  • I asked in the beta thread about spectral rendering and got no reply.  I tried turning it on but didn't notice any major difference in the output.

That is the other thread about spectral rendering I found:

From that thread linked about & the picture of the lady in a bikini maybe it's just a change in the rendering algorithm for spectrals so that you can get 3 different popular types of render styles just by using the new spectral rendering setting. I have to admit it beats dorking around with the iRay Surfaces settings and texture map sets.

The industry standard definition of "spectral rendering" (which may have little to nothing to do with what it means in DAZ-speak) is sending out rays with a whole bunch of different wavelengths, and seeing where each of them goes based on the dispersion of the interfaces between transparent or transluscent regions.

It would be barely noticeable on a figure, aside from possibly adding a bit more "glint" to the eye. If you really want to see it, try it on something clear,  set some dispersion options, and set the lighting up to cast interesting caustics.
