Item Warping on Fit

I'm trying to find a decent 'utility belt' for a superhero idea. JoeQuick's Durabelt for M4 is one of the better ones I've found but fitting it to G3 is proving problematic.

Once I fit it, the belt crushes up into an unusable mass as apparently every inch of it tries to conform skintight. And all the morphing controls for it under 'Actor' vanish, something I've never seen before.

I can just scale and position and such until it looks perfect without fitting it but then of course it never moves correctly even when I parent it to, say, the hips.

Is there a way to fix this?

  • Stupidly, I found the answer almost at once - applying a whole body morph to G3 like 'age preset' before adding things apparently messes everything up that follows after the whole body morph.

Still can't figure out why fitting something also wipes out an entire section of adjustment that's badly needed.

Often, when you use 'fit to' to put an older item on a newer generation figure, the item's morph disappear. It can be better to parent the item to the figure, then rescale it to fit. There are other things that can help.

One way is to look at the hidden morphs under parameters  and see which ones from the figure have been induced into the item. You can then reduce the morph's effect on  the item, without reducing it on the figure.

Another way is to use Fit Control. The script adds adjustment morphs to the items, but not the figure. It has been very helpful in getting clothes to fit some of my characters.

If you have some skill with a modeling program (I don't), you could modify the item so it works on your figure of choice.

I've used the first two methods a lot with good results. If I ever find the time to learn my modeling programs, I'll give the third method a try.
