Those small buttons...

Was just testing some light sets when I discovered one of those small panel buttons on the left side of the popup render window. Clicked it, and voila, live access to the render settings. Been using this version of DS for months and first discovered this now. I imagine many others wasn't aware of this handy feature either.

You can also change settings on the tone mapping while it's rendering to see what it does. It's fun to change the gamma, fstop, shutter speed, etc :). Try changing the white point to a color...see what ya get.

That can be very useful, if you set lights to a specific color temperature...like maybe 2700 and then match that orangish color in the white point settings...

I love messing around with all those sliders...lol. Of course, I'm one of those people who does the "I wonder what this button does?" thing ;).

Seeing this straight after mjc's 'red button, don't panic' avatar amused me a bit :)

Somebody else mentioned that button on the side of the render window a while back, and I remember thinking 'Ooooh, handy!'. And then instantly forgetting it. It might sink in and stay this time :)

  • Push buttons and see what happens. Ha this is very funny.

    Happy Thanksgiving Everyone.

Yes, that's actually what I meant with "live" (couldn't find a better word at that time - guess "intercative" would have been better). Wouldn't have made much sense with this feature anyway if you couldn't change the settings I guess. wink

I've noticed though that whenever you change a setting it jumps backwards to an earlier stage of the rendering process and starts over again from that point, and that seems to be the same point no matter how far it has come, so I guess you should only do this at the beginning of a render.

It appears to jump back, but quickly speeds up again to the point where it was before the setting change I think.

That's been my experience with it...it may take a couple of updates or so (of the render) but usually in less than a minute, it jumps back.  Except for the time.  If you change the max time, it could stay 'stuck in the past' for a while.

Well I've done some testing and that's not my experience. I could also see the percentage go from 10 to about 2 I think (just noticed after a while and there it was at 5).

But I'm currently doing CPU rendering, maybe it's different with GPU rendering? Or maybe it depends on which settings you change (I tried Gamma, Saturation, Exposure Value).

That could be the difference, yes. Most of the time I'm rendering on the GPU.
