Do you need a game license if your using renders in a game?

I assume since we have right on our renders we can use renders in a game without a game license but just in case I'm asking.

Correct, you only need the licence to use the actual meshes, textures etc within a 3D game. For renders you just have to own all the products you used to make it, no other licences required. I have a lot of renders in my games, and I do not own any of the game licences.

You don't need a special license to use your 2D renders in your  game - only if you want include the resources like 3D-meshes.

Edit: Guess I'm slow again today LOL

  • Ok, actualy miltiple answear are reasuring. Thanks

  • And if the models are all of your own making then you don't need a license to use them either.

  • You can also use those renders as "animation" (video), there is no license required at all for that, this was confirmed by DAZ Support to me when I asked them !

  • You can think of those game developer licenses as allowing you to distribute those 3D resources (mesh, textures, etc) in the various game formats along with the game. I'm sure there are restrictions as to what they actually allow (i.e. you couldn't just redistribute the stuff as DAZ Studio content and call it a game), but you can use them inside your Unity based game or one of the many engines assuming that you have the means to do the necessary conversions. Considering the breadth of content available here and at other sites, folks have a huge amount of resources available.
