What's the point of Iray Uber Base?

When I click the Iray Uber Base it doesn't do anything. I thought you have to click this before you put any shaders but even though I don't click the iray uber base and just click a shader for example glass shader it still works. So what's the point of an iray uber base?

Iray Uber Base is the ONLY shader...glass, emissive, etc are all presets for it.  But since they are presets, they load it when they are applied.  So if you are NOT applying one of the presets then you would use the base...like when converting a 3Delight surface to Iray when there are not existing presets for it.  Also it won't need to be pre-applied when applying any Iray preset.

Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it, when I first began Uber was confusing.  This tutorial by Szark very helpful, if you haven't seen.

The entries in the folder "Iray Uber" are all shaders. You can simply apply every of these in the first place.
The "Iray Uber Base" shader only is the default iRay shader. Now you have got the possibility to set your own individual properties as you like.
