Grey Block Characters

So, all of a sudden all of my genesis characters load as grey blocks.  Every, single, one.  No, I haven't moved files, no I haven't changed anything, no I haven't removed anything, yes, I just used my genesis characters yesterday with no problem. No i haven't done any updates, not for my pc and not for Daz Studio.  Just uninstalled and re installed the genesis starter essentials etc.  Still grey blocks.  How does this even happen?  Stuff should not just randomly get lost.

Umm now I'm freaking out a little bit.  ALL of my characters from every generation are grey blocks!

Check if Content Directory Manager is still showing the correct paths.  If your content is not on the C: drive, make sure the drive letter hasn't changed.

And what am I looking for exactly?  It all looks exactly like it did before.  Its under public documents, my daz3dlibrary.  And where is the content directory manager?

Make sure your Viewport is still set to texture shaded.

Oh my gosh that was it thank you!  Although I have no idea how it got changed since I haven't touched it in a week or so.  I didn't click on anything but my character when I opened studio tonight.  Thank you thank you seriously, I was totally freaking out lol. Never would have thought of that.  One more question if you don't mind.  What exactly would someone want to use that particular setting for?

If your viewport is sluggish, you might want to switch to bounding boxes while you position things.

Ah I had no idea thanks!  I will keep that in mind for my laptop since it has a tendency to bog down at times.  Again, thanks so much! I feel kind of silly but I honestly would never have figured that out on my own.

You are my hero - this will save me tons of frustration. :)  Fighting with my viewport has long been a problem.  I'll be giving this a try ASAP.  :)

I usually have to go to bounding boxes when working with animals with LAMH presets for instance after I change them over to objs for Iray. Gets a lil slow ;)
