JUST ADDED: WARNING

after applying this patch, my EVGA Precison X driver no longer recognizes my graphics card as supported hardware.  and my monitor display is a mess.  so be warned.  you may want to give EVGA a little longer to get their ducks in a row.  :/ j

after an independent review noticed serious overheating problems with the cards, the manufacturers realized that they've been shipping cards with the fanspeed set improperly.

a firmware patch has just been released to fix it.  the patch, once applied, will remain permanently on the card.

the full explanation, appropriate bios patch files, and the option for owners to request a free themal cooling pad for their card can be found here:

http://www.evga.com/thermalmod/

so hey!  looks like there was a silver lining to nvidia's incredible delay in delivering iray support for these cards!

pass the word--

yt,

j

Generally, you'll need to reinstall the drivers after a BIOS patch...

    thanks, mjc...

i'll be expecting that next time around.  :)

i ran into the 'nvidia driver updates cannot continue' deadend with both the nvidia and the evga drivers, reinstalling, but finally got things sorted out.
