Texture Filtering: How?

I'd run into problems with textures looking like they were half-toned when viewed really close. On a discussion about the particular textures, a user suggested filter settings could fix the problem. But I don't know where those settings are found, and now I've encountered the same problem in yet another product (and suspect it would be true of any product, since the maps can't be large enough to cover all render scenarios). Does anyone know how to access filter settings for textures? Or is the only realistic solution to upsample the textures in Photoshop (or other program) and hope for soft textures instead of half-toned ones?

    Check here.

Edit: to sum up in words because it looks like there may be a problem with viewing images at the moment-Render Settings Tab/Advanced and see what number is in the High Threshold box. I think it defaults to 2048. I've got mine at 4096.

Second edit: apologies if I'm completely misunderstanding the question, which is totally possible.

  • Thanks! I'm not actually sure if that answers the question because I'm not sure what caused the problem—if it's a filter setting (like using box filtering instead of Guassian; or a filter width issue), in which case your answer wouldn't be the solution; or if it's simply that DAZ is down-sampling the textures unless you change the settings like you've shown. However, I've never touched that setting and it seems like a likely candidate.

  • Yeah, that High Threshold is essentially compressing down the images to save RAM. Please report back if you are seeing better results.
