Seems inappropriate.... Terrorist attack???

This product seems inappropriate considering everything going on in the world. Why is violence OK and not nudity? These are not "zombies." Zombies don't use guns, terrorists do...

These look like poses for a crime drama. They don't look like poses associated with a zombie attack.
He could be trying to defend the cowering people from zombies or from a gang or something like that. You can read all sorts of things into the image, but the fact that the man with the gun is pointing it away from the frightened people makes me think probably not terrorism.
The question of why violence is OK but not nakedness is a much wider question than just Daz's rules. It seems to be widespread in our society, you could probably do a long and expensive sociological study of it and I expect some people have.
Why automatically "terrorist"?
I see Pulp Fiction, or a gangland type of scene.
Of course, it can be terrorist; but even then, why not?
And how is nudity not OK in DAZ? You have seen your characters load up? Not OK on a public website I'm sure is what you are actually talking about; and there is your answer - public website. Ask why nudity will get an R rating in the movies on a movie site and you'll get your answer.
Is it just me or do those stools seem out of proportion? can't imagine getting on or off one after a few drinks, LOL.
I see nothing inappropriate about it. Violence happens daily around the world, while very sad, it is reality. The only things inappropriate are people trying to call things out that offend 'them' as inappropriate. Nothing forcing anyone to purchase this product or even look at it in detail.
this look like a set I actually could use, so thanks for pointing it out.
Maybe that's why so many people have fallen on the floor
I have been in real cafes with seats about as high as those, I usually feel a bit insecure sitting on them even before drinking anything.
This looks pretty much like a scene straight out of the Walking Dead tv series. The guy with the pistol is positioned like Rick the sheriff
The chair isn't out of proprtion; it's one of the high chairs standing at the bar, a stool more than a chair?
I saw it as a zombie attack. I saw people with guns defending themselves. Personally not bothered by this at all or combat images. I intend to buy it.
Hobbit gangstas?
LMAO! now that is a render I want to see.
We have tried really hard not to infer any sort of terrorist type connotations on this... which you'll see when the follow up zombie pack rolls out.. ;) so no, this was not our intentions with this one at all. The idea with this is a last-stand type scene, with some hero's protecting a group of people from the impending zombie hoard. It's not the zombies that are meant to be armed.
It's incredibly difficult to create unique and interesting products, which don't trigger someone in some way. I've had the same conversations with people with some of the West Park stuff. I accept it's close to home for some, but, that's art.. in my very humble opinion. We want to give people the chance to create whatever narrative they wish, of course without offence, but I'd hate to be in a situation where the only type of content we can create is bland, sterile and mundane subjects that couldn't possibly offend anyone in any way. We'd be left with the T-pose I guess... which would probably offend people with only one arm.
I hope that explains our point of view, but please feel free to PM me if you wish to discuss further.
So ... why should we accept violence because (posted in this thread) :I see nothing inappropriate about it. Violence happens daily around the world, while very sad, it is reality.
And not nudity or sex? Which, I assure you, happens all around the world every day several times in every town, every, village, every place where humans live ... So that is not reality?
I am all for showing nudity, bring it on. DAZ has already banned that aspect from the site, no need to get something else banned, LOL.
The why violence and not nudity/sex discussion is not going to be possible within the TOS, unfortunately, so please let it drop. Jack has addessed the specific concerns of the original post.
This arguement comes up from time to time on the forum, which usually devolves pretty fast. Especailly since people have diverse views on what is acceptable viewing based on their own culture, viewpoints, or customs.
Suffice is to say, it is DAZ's store, and they get to decide what they are okay with.
There are plenty of places to see nudity especially digitial nudity on the net if that is what you are interested in. Just as there are places you can go if you want to see more hardcore violence than what is acceptable here. (Despite what people may believe DAZ is still prety restrictive on the violence, and most of what is in the store is tame and light really.).
DAZ has tried to steer a line between allowing artists their freedom, and keeping up the terms they want for people to use their site.
If you're going to wait for a time when terrorism (and violence in general) is no longer topical, you'll be waiting for a very long time! It's been going on since before I was even born. :)
Besides which, artistic expression is important. Artists get inspired by what's in the news and sometimes like to use their talents to protest against something, rather than glorify it. Just look at the outpouring of art which followed in the wake of the Paris attacks. James Cameron once famously said that the job of science-fiction film-makers is not to present the future, but to prevent it.
With that said, I agree with the other commenters: My assumption behind the intent of this set was either a gangster theme or, as has now been confirmed, something to do with horror, because of the season. Good to hear there'll be an accompanying zombie set being issued!
I'm actually going to need some poses a lot like this for a 'last stand'-style scene, with civilians being protected against some predatory creatures, for a motion-comic project of mine. Proof, right there, that some of us have a need for these kind of things for positive and heroic purposes! :)
When I see handguns, I don't normally think of terrorists, I think of criminals. Now if a guy had a C4 vest, that would be a different thing.
As for the skittishness on sex and not violence; this society came up with those rules long before I was even on the scene and it appears that it will be among the last taboos we eliminate. I can remember with you could barely get away with saying "damn" on television or radio and now I can hear profanity 24/7 on both.
I see the image as a hostage scene from a crime drama. What is needed next is the people on the outside trying to resolve the situation as peaceful as possible.
Westpark is creepy but more genre, not realistic, so doesn't bother me. And, I myself do pinup art, mostly sci-fi fantasy, of girls with guns, but again, they are not realistic, they're genre and stylized, and the girls look like they are flirting or teasing with their facial expression
Regardless, it's fine. Art is not just about rainbows and skipping in the park. It sometimes deals with hard, troubling, even disturbing subjects. If you don't like it, don't buy it, don't look beyond the one image on the page and don't dwell on it. It's not up to anyone to decide whether or not something is 'okay' or not, only the company has to make sure any depictions are within clear legal restrictions.
I don't agree with everything I see for sale here. So I don't buy it. But someone else may want it......I have no problem with that, that's their right.
Those poses could be used for a MULTITUDE of situations.
We see gangster and mob related stuff....but that culture has killed more people than all the 'terrorist' attacks recorded in the last two decades. Why no outcry about that?
We're artists.....we shouldn't even have to discuss this stuff. If you don't like it, don't look at it, don't buy it, and don't support it. But let others like, look, and buy if they want.
OMG, I need a safe space thread. I'm triggered by women in leather catsuits, it implies sadomasochism and beastiality, I'm highly offended. /sarc
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the poses themselves, and I can see that they could be useful in various situations as could everything in this product. And when looked at that way, I may even purchase it myself. I think it was actually the promos that bothered me, not the product itself.
I'm triggered by women in catsuits, too ;)
