Opacity for a human figure
in New Users
Suppose I want to make a human figure (let's say Genesis 2 Female) look somewhat transparent, like a ghost. How could I achieve that? Using the Surfaces tab's opacity settings gives some strange, inconsistent results.

I have never used this product, but a good place to start. Works with 3Delight.

The problem with the traditional ghost look is that it is illogical - the ghost is semi-transparent, but only the front-facing areas are seen. pwGhost is an option for 3Delight, the other option is to do two renders - one with and one without the ghostly figure - and layer the ghost image over the non-ghost image with a reduced opacity. Of course if you don't mind a more logical look you could just lower the opacity of the figure and any hair or clothing in the sceen and render once.
Yes, easier to render twice and composit elsewhere, I think. It is, after all, the traditional Hollywood approach (not to mention hoax photgraphers). I throw an extra light onto the 'ghost' figure sometimes. I have not tried this in iray, but would expect adding a little bloom on the ghost render would add a nice touch.
There's a free iray ghost shader on sharecg
In my "For Whom the Bell Tolls" render, I just meticulously went through and adjusted the opacity of each area until I thought it looked good.
