Help with lighting of scenes please

Hi there,

I have been doing renders in IRay on Daz 4.9 with the default light, the light that is there when I build each scene.  Now I am trying to get into Uber Environment and spot lights etc.  I have worked through some of the Jolt instructional videos and a couple of items in the forum.  My problem is that when I add lights the default lights in the scene (the light that was already there) overpower the added lights.  I cannot find any way to switch off the default light or even modify it…it does not show up in the light tab.

Can anyone point me to a suitable tutorial or other answer to this?

Many thanks.

Uber Environmnet is for 3DL not IRay. Iray has a Sun/Sky only lighting set up in the Iray Render Settings under Environment. You can also load in a Sun Dial (Render Setting under Presets > Iray see first attached image) that will help you position the sun.

Distant Lights don't works as well in Iray as in 3DL and they need the intensity lowered reaaly low. Best stick with HDRI/Sun and Sky, Point and spot lights.

And they can't 'see' through things as easily as they can in 3DL.

You need to check that the Camera Headlamp is turned off you can do this with the camera you are rendering through selected in the Camera tab.

Iray default lighting is a HDRI this can be replaced or changed in the render tab under environment.

  • Many thanks everyone, I was way off track wasn't I?!

I am grateful that the Daz community is so helpful.
