Do the |character| for |model| products work w/o Model?

At one point on some product or other I saw a note that <Character> for <Model> would work without <Model>, it would just look a little bit different (less stylized, more like default G3). Is this generally true? Because I desperately need some more skins for boys and my budget for the month is already overblown.

Yes, I've found that the skin texture you use influences your perspective about the character's looks than the geometry structure. I had at one time posts in my gallery that made the same character morph look (to my eyes) Japanese, Arabian, Irish depending on what skin texture I used on it but I've deleted those learning exercises.

The morph will load in most cases but not look the same as the promos without the base morph it requires.

Great. I'm willing to try to morph, say, my own Islander with general morphing tools, but I really feel like I need some of those skins! (And of course I plan on buying the base morphs as soon as their price and my budget can find common ground!)

  • Generally, speaking, yes, most characters will work on the base figure without the specific model - i.e. FWSA Max for Tween Ryan 7 will still work on Genesis 3 Male without Ryan, he just won't look like his promos.  The ONLY exception is if a character requires the specific UV of the model, but this seems to be an extremely rare occurrence.
