Dear PAs - Show us some Leg

Many of us need to see a character's full body before deciding if we want to purchase it. This trend of cutting the legs off/only doing promo shots from the thigh up sucks for those of us who believe that seeing the character's full body and skin texture is important. PLEASE stop giving us Only half body and face shots. One full-body promo shot shouldn't be hard to include... Just one, pretty please? For the love of furry kittens and feel good buddy movies? :P

I think that many people aren't going to buy unless we get to see the legs/full body. I want to support the PAs but I really won't purchase a character if we don't even get to see a single full body shot of her/him or at least a shot that include the legs. Surely I'm not the only one who would prefer to see at least one full body render, or a shot that includes the character's legs, before deciding whether or not to buy a figure?

    TBH... we forget.

There are so many things to show... makeup, face, profile. torso front and back.eyebrows.  Sometimes we simply forget to do a full body shot.

You promos are great, good shots of the textures/skin; useful info included. One reason I buy lots of yours, that and they are great.

Girl, whatchu talking about? :P You always include the full body shot (at least for all of your newest characters). I'm always impressed with your promo shots - you take great care to show clear renders of the skin textures, use lovely lighting, alluring poses, include visuals of the great options - I absolutely love your promo shots. I was actually tempted, when I wrote this post, to be a bit cheeky and provide a link to your gallery as an example of how it SHOULD be done! lol

divamakeup, you are right about the legs. What I am missing even more in some recent promo shots are the eye colours.

Eyes are so important for a character, and I know that making eye textures is not easy (but interesting!); I made some for my personal use with Obsidian Dawn's wonderful free kit. So, dear PAs, why don't you show the results of your hours and hours of hard work in the promos?

Sorry divamakeup, I didn't mean to hijack this thread, but I think the 'eye problem' wink is related to your question.

  • I'm not sure I want to see the legs of some of our dear PA's... cheeky

Just polish the scales before taking the picture.

Oh I totally agree. :) They eyes can make or break a scene. I'd also like to see the makeup options (but that's more of a "want" than a need). Scrolling down and then happen to read "8 makeup options" but none of them are shown in the promo renders makes me go "huh?". Why create different makeup looks but only show us one? We need to be able to make informed decisions on what to buy. I wouldn't buy a dress by just looking at the top of the dress. I want to see the whole dress, you know? lol

It makes me scratch my head when some PAs put a lot of time and effort into creating characters but don't give us proper promo shots to show them. And of course I'm not talking about PAs like Lyoness who take a lot of care into preparing really nice promo shots that give us customers the information we need in order to make the decision to buy or not (in her case it's usually an enthusiastic YES!!). lol

I'm talking about the PAs that seam to not really think about what the customer needs to see when it comes to the promo images and they do it again and again and again. Giving us only half body shots for most of their characters (or worse, mainly just face shots), not showing the skin textures, covering the characters in too much clothes so you can't really see the skin textures, having the characters wear hair that covers the brows or half the face in every shot, etc. These things are pretty important to many people who buy characters and I'm sure it has to have an effect on sales numbers. Making posts like this is not just my way, as a customer, of asking for what I need to see in order to buy, but I'm also trying to help the PAs that do do these things to hopefully get more sales - by taking more care to show the customers the type of promo images we need to see in order to decide if we want to buy. If the promo images are really lacking and don't give the customer the information they need, I'm willing to bet that the majority of the time, for many people, it's an automatic PASS.

hahah This made me literally laugh out loud. :) Thanks for the laugh, I needed that.

A good suggestion.  I hope the all of the PAs listen to you.

  • Personally- I do try to get at least the full body shot of the front/back and if there are other options such as tats or make ups; those as well.  I agree with the sentiment here.  I'd personally prefer to purchase something I know what's there, rather than try to guess.

Another thing I'd like in character promos is to show the character with at least 2 styles of hair... Sometimes if a character is shown with a hair that I don't like, I don't even look closely at the character, my eyes just glaze over it among all the other new shinies, and it isn't until later when I see someone else's render that I notice it for the first time and wonder why I didn't notice it before. I know it's a tiny bit extra work, but you can quickly throw on one other hairstyle for variety because you never know what may attract a buyer... AND, now that I'm on a roll, I'd love to see a link to the lights used in the promo or if it's your own light, maybe include it in the package? I actually have some great light sets now that can make most characters look good but it would be cool to know what lights were used if it's a really great promo... And while you're at it, why not links to all the products in the promos? Some PAs do that and I love it, but often even DOs don't have it...

What I'd like, more than just a full body shot, would be at least one promotional image where the character is bald. Characters hardly ever come with hair and we're essentially buying the shape and skin. Putting Genesis 3 in different sets of hair radically alters a potential buyer's perspective of what the actual product's true selling points or unique values are, as they're effectively shielding it with a separate product. Showing what they look like bald gives a much better appraisal of the head and facial structure.

If only users could add their own pictures in a separate tab somewhere...

That's what I said, like Rendo has a gallery section that shows all user renders who have used and credited that product...

+1.  I just looked at a character but I could only see half of the eyebrows because the character wears a hair that covers the rest of the eyebrows on all the promos.

Well you can always use eye textures from a different character or from an eye texture set, I always do that if I don't like those that come with the character so it's not a deal breaker to me.

For the love of furry kittens

Legs or not, we won't be seeing any furry kittens on this site no matter what. Most of them tend to not be furry at all anyway, but that is something we'll never know until we've bought them and loaded them into our viewport. So unless the PA has a commercial thread here, with directions to a DA account or something where everything can be seen, we'll always be buying some parts of the characters unseen.

Some of us want to see the store page now, not five minutes from now... Yes, it sometimes takes that long for me to see the store pages on that other site.
