Hi,

  Is it possible to change the color of an item in an LIE file?

    You mean a preset to alter just one component without affecting the rest? I'm not sure, it could almost certainly be done with a script but as a preset is trickier and may not be possible.

    Yes, you can do it with a color chip with a b/w mask (rather than a layer) applied to it. Make the color you want and make sure it's at the top of the stack.

      Thanks so much for your valuable info.

      Would it be possible to show me a screen shot how to do that.

    I am using a white for the texture.

    I would like to be able to have the user change colors.

    The attached image is the LIE version.

    Hi AllenArt,

    I'm not sure how to make a color chip.

    With a color chip and a mask does that mean I don't need the actual white texture on it?

    Add a layer in the LIE, click on the color chip (the bar with the color (usually black) and the three numbers in it and change it to the color you want, OR browse for a color texture in there in the dropdown rather than use the color chip. Then, where you add a layer, add a mask instead (to the layer you just made) and choose a black and white map as the alpha.

    This might help you in some way ;). The color chip showing is hot pink. That's also the layer that I applied the color mask to shown mid right open and highlighted in yellow. Doing it this way, you can make the main color (green here) any color you want and the mask color (the hot pink stars) any color you want by selecting the layer and changing the color of the color chip.

    Here, I used the same alpha (stars), changed the color of the bottom layer to black and used a multicolored image for the color of the stars on the top layer (the layer with the stars mask).

    I love the LIE. MUCH easier to do layers there than it was in Poser with all the noodles and Blender nodes. It has its limitations, but overall it's very useful :).

    keep in mind not every one uses LIE. I would prefer an actual colored diffuse texture instead of a LIE preset or altered secondary diffuse settings.
