Selecting (or not having to select) the UV

Sometimes when I apply materials to G1 I have to change the uv to the correct matching value.  Other times I don't.  Does it just depend on the product with some products applying automatically and others not, or am I missing something important?

I'm not sure 100% but I think it depends on whether or not the current loaded model was created for the texture set you have just loaded. I use textures sets on models intended for another models and when I load those texture sets I must change the UV set of the target model for it to look correct.

  • Materials Presets should usually set the UV set, but if you apply a Poser-format PZ2 file (or MC6) then any UV changes will need to be set manually.

    Ok, thanks.

For the ones that apply automatically, is there any reason for the average user (me) to even care what UV is being used?

The reason I ask is right now I have all materials usable by Genesis1 marked or categorized into subfolders based on the UV so I know which UV to set the material to after applying it.  But for the materials that automatically apply to G1 regardless of whether they were for V4, S5, etc. then I think I don't care, and I can just dump these materials all into the same folder which will make things easier to find and categorize.  But before I start trashing this old system I just want to make sure there aren't any other reasons to track this info so I don't loose a large quantity of work if it turns out later there was still some reason to keep track of this.

  • As long as you have the UV set you won't care which is being used unless:

    • you want to use an overlay product, in which case it needs to be using the same UV set
    • you want to use it on another figure, in which case you need to make sure that other figure has the required UV set (Genesis 2 Female has the Victoria 5 UVs, but a lot of Genesis characters use the Victoria 4 UVs, so that can be an issue without add-ons).

there may be other situations, but those are the two that come to mind.
