Chill Room - the iray light source? iray ambient occlusion?

deciding if i need this smiley http://www.daz3d.com/chill-room

i'se still an iray newbie,

those overhead Y lights, are those the source of light in the scene,
so if i load this interior scene the lights are all setup and ready to render?

or would i need to add lights and configure?

is there such a thing as ambient light and occlusion shadows in iray?

Thanks!

There is only light that you add. Amience and shadows  (occlusion or otherwise) come from the lighting.

The write up strongly suggests the set comes with lighting of some type, probably  objects that give off light. This is not usually the fastest way to render, but it provides for realistic lighting, especially when the light sources are meant to be seen. The product page says the set has "great lighting" so I'd take them at their word, and if it doesn't, you can point that out when you ask for a refund.

Looking at the list the individual light sources are made to emit light in Iray and can be set to on or off, probably using the Emission setting under the surface tab. All lights cast shadows in Iray and they can't be set to off.

  • The Y-lamps in the ceiling, the standing floor lamps, and the neon sign appear to be supplying the light in the main promo shot.  That light spot on the ceiling to the right is caused by a just off-camera floor lamp, you can see it in one of the other renders.

oh yeah, was wondering about the white light blob on the ceiling.  made me think the ceiling fans weren't the source of light.
