Can POSES Be Used by Different Generations of Figures?

Does anyone know which figures can be used for more than one generation of figures?  Can V4 poses be used on Genesis, Genesis2, Genesis3?

Can poses made for a male figure be used on a female figure?

Or do you need to buy poses that are made only for one specific figure?

    Yes they  can be used to a limited extent but the results may not always be satisfactory or may require some tweaking. Using Genesis or Genesis 2 poses on Genesis 3 is particular problematic because of differences in bone structure and weight mapping.

    There are also pose converters that will convert poses from one generation to another:

    Answer for directly is No. Apart G1 works in G2, but the rest no. You need conversion. There are conversion products for V4 to G1, G2F and G2F to G3F. Between F and M in same generation no problem, but difference in shape affect results.

    From V4 to Genesis is easy with this free script: http://www.sharecg.com/v/60135/browse/21/DAZ-Studio/Genesis-V4-pose-adjust-script Just use the V4 pose on Genesis then use that script and it fixes it. 

    From G1 to G2 it can work but you usually have to make some adjustments. From G2 to G3 - not at all. G3 doesn't do well with any past gen poses, sadly. However, as was pointed out, Zev0 has some great products for using older gen poses on the newer gens.

    Whether or not they work (allowing that poses will need adjusting because of the differing bone structures - see the feet in my example image) in part depends on the format of the pose file, if I recall correctly.  Some of the Genesis figures don't accept .pz2 files.  Others only accept .duf poses

    The converters help with speeding up the adjustments considerably (and depending on your figure's shape, frequently removing the neccesity entierely)

    This shows all three Genesis figures (G3F, G1, G2F respectively) with some of the V4 .duf version of DM's Circle poses "out of the box" before adjusting the figure.

    Yes but you need pose converters. There are converters sold here for all generations.  genesis 2 to Genesis 3 is the most difficult.

    Hey all, those are very helpful answers, thank you.  Do the same rules apply if you are trying to use poses made for a newer generation on older figures too?  Like using Genesis2 poses on V4?

    I have never seen a converter for backwards compatability , sorry sweety. But they make tons and tons of poses for the older generations...and tons of free ones. You should not have a problem finding what you need.

    I've only tried on Victoria 4 - G1 poses work ok on V4 with only minor adjustments needed (mostly in the feet), G2 works somewhat but needs more adjustments. G3 doesn't work at all.

    Even with the pose converters, the amount of tweakage can be substantial.

    I've found that some poses work and some have no effect at all.   If you're talking about expressions all bets are off.  I've got V7 espression sets that won't make a dent in  some gen 3 characters.

    G1 to V4 sure with former-DAZ now-Rendo PoseMaster. Probably this works for G2 to V4. For G3 backward I believe that Zev0 or Draagonstorm said "No" but can't find the thread. PoserMaster allows create templates between figures, it is probably that templates can be created between figures+shapes in G1, G2, Mill 3, and Mill 4 generations. However, I suspect that if Draagonstorm can't convert G3 to G2, PoserMaster also can't.

    Wow!!! Thank you for pointing out PoseMaster!  I looked at it and there is a PoseMaster People Pack that will do these conversions:

    - Genesis to/from Aiko 4, Hiro 4, Kids 4, Michael 4, Victoria 4
    - Genesis to/from Aiko 3, David 3, Hiro 3, Laura, Luke, Maddie, Matt, Michael 3, Stephanie 3 Petite, Victoria 3
    - Genesis to/from Stephanie, Millenium Girls and Millenium Boys
    - Michael 4 to/from Michael 3
    - Victoria 4 to/from Victoria 3
    - Kids 4 to/from Matt and Maddie 3
    - Generation 2, 3 and 4 poses can be transferred through Genesis e.g. V3 to Genesis to M4
