Sales durations

I know the offers cycle through along the carousel at the top of the website, but would it be possible for the offers to state how long they will last? I have a basket of items at the moment that I would love to buy as they are on offer, but I don't know if they will still be on offer when I get paid again. On the pages showing the featured items and all the special offers could there be some T&C at the bottom that say this offer ends.... etc

That way it would stop me drooling over things I can't afford lol :)

People have been asking for end dates on the sales here for ages from what I've been told - it still hasn't happened, so I'm not sure if they ever will. It might be part of the plan to try and "train" people to "buy now" in fear of later the sale being gone.

Possibly. I watch the sales drop off the end of the carousel and keep hoping that my wages hit my bank before it disappears. Fingers crossed!

To be more precise, they have been asking for those since DAZ started using Magento store software for their website, a good number of years ago. So I wouldn't hold my breath...

You could use PayPal credit, if you qualify...

DAZ has for years, seemed to exhibit a discernable lack of ability to tell time.  And certainly to tell us a time for sales endings.  It's a failing that many of us have kvetched about until the thrill wore off.  Now we just make comments like this. devil

  • The banner ads usually, but not always, last for about a week; the exception is the flash/blink sales, which generally are a few hours in duration. Sometimes there will be special offers like the current x% off for Tween Ryan if you own x number of DAZ Original figures that will have specified ending dates.

The way it works seems to be that every new banner ad shunts everything to the right of the PC+ banner sideways. Every day that this happens, the last one to the left of the Fastgrab banner gets dropped, if it's more than a week old.

Occasional complication; sometimes a really special offer (e.g. the new kid character offer) will grab the second-leftmost place and stay there for a while, so the actual "newest" banner isn't visible in the rotation until you let it scroll a bit.

Yeah, I kinda thought that was the case. I think the "Hair blending and Light Blending" amazing offer for 5 resources for free is going to drop off the end before the end of the month which is just going to make me cry lol.

Some specials do have end dates, and others while they don't seem to go on forever.  Seems like when it's something I really want though, the sale always ends before I can reach my next pay day.  crying

How to tell how long a sale will last:

Something you really want and have been saving up for: Look for posts from two days ago that mention an 80% off sale that lasted one day... That was how long that item will be on sale. You missed it.

Stuff you would never buy/have no interest in: This sale will last forever or occur frequently enough to make you believe you are trapped in your own personal Groundhog Day... Sans Bill Murray or adorable groundhogs. Unless of course you are Bill Murray or own a pet groundhog.

There are other more complicated ways of figuring this out, but they involve math... The Ancient Greek astronomer, geographer, mathematician and world class bungee jumper, Hipparchus of Nicaea created a great formula for figuring out how long DAZ's sales will last... It involved something called "spherical trigonometry", Aryabhata's sine table and stacking armadillo shells... Maybe... I'm really, really bad at Ancient Greek, but it does involve a lot of numbers and what I'm guessing are letters and therefore it's either really complicated math or a color-by-numbers painting nobody finished... But according to legend, this formula can be used to help you figure out the duration of DAZ sales and whether a cat will land on it's feet if you strap a slice of toast butter-side up to its back... So far the cat related tests have all proven successful enough for PETA representatives to call for its ban... Which is not that fair since the cats are allowed to keep the toast at the end of the tests. Either way, nobody really likes ancient math or has many armadillo shells laying around, so the point is rather moot... In the end, only DAZ knows when their sales will end and to be honest that's just decided by a one armed monkey spinning an old roulette wheel they found after a carnival left them behind (monkey and roulette wheel), and given that they don't really write those dates down for security reasons, it's left for the monkey to remember and he is getting on in years.

Your best bet is to just hold tightly onto a towel and panic buy whatever you can afford.

I hope this was useful information...  I didn't really research any of it and if it was useful it would mean my ability to guess at stuff is getting better.

I think the towel idea sounds the best if I'm honest. lol

I will bear that in mind for the next time an amazing sale happens (which knowing DAZ will be about 3 days)

It has been rumored that if you strap a piece of buttered toast to a cat's back and drop him, you will have perpetual motion as the cat/toast hover inches above the floor, spinning along the Z axis. Cat/Toast = Coast? Toat?

    "Coasting" along in mid air?

    I'll stop now.

    Drat. Now I want toast.

@McGyver lol! That certainly seams the case. :P Thanks for the laugh.

  • They're not going to tell you when the sales end.  Sense of urgency, sense of scarcity.  Those two things keep us coming back.  Marketing 101.  It works -- here I am.  :)

That depends on the size of the toast and amount of butter on it.

Also make sure that the kind of bread and how darkly it's toasted matches the cat's breed and color.  Trust me, you don't want to mix a tortoiseshell with burnt toast.

You're right, I've tried that and it just didn't taste good at all. Now Siamese on light toast with butter and a bit of cinnamon is paradise on the palate!

Some researchers have claimed that the spin efficiency is also affected by the value of the carpet the cat/toast combination is being dropped towards.

I've noticed that especially when peeking into the fast grab section, somethings that last exactly one day while others hang around for a week. Sometimes I wonder if Mcgyver is a writer always has amusing or entertaining comments.

They've trained me to mostly ignore the sales - there'll always be another one along soon enough.

SALES TOO HARD: BUY LESS  (Drop the Teddy Bear and Walk Away)

For the most part the unpredictability causes me, too, to ignore sales; too much of a headache. I liked the Greek formulae above. That about sums up how I feel about a lot of Daz marketing. There is a point where things are 'exciting' and Daz is on the right tracck. But then too much conditional and I give up and go away. It becomes more a game of chance that you'll get the prize rather than a sale; more like trying to get a claw on a Teddy Bear and drop it down the chute of an arcade game than to get a reasonable bargain. Since what I buy most is speculative (I could use...) I just buy less.  My time in figuring out these things is valuable to me. I give it to Daz but only to a point.

    SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL 3D ARTIST(S)

That being said, I believe I did a reasonable amount to help support the artist SWAM and a couple of others with a recent purchase(s).  But that it is because it was a part of a PA sale that was fairly predictable. I was told in advance in the forums that the PA sale would start in September so I had the resources set aside and I waited for what I was looking  for.... even tho the  items there are speculative, too.  It is NOT likely I would have bought them otherwise because I don't 'need' them yet; I am on a pretty strict budget - they just help me grow as I continue to learn this 3D space.

EVEN BUY STUFF YOU CAN'T USE

But even here in the predictable PA sale arena I was 'forced' to buy an item I don't think I'll ever use. I have Poser and all the items bumping the sale items up to 65% seemed to be Daz specific. I took the time and did the calculations and they said I would come out ahead if I spent the $8.99 or so to randomly buy one of the less expensive New release items even though I don't plan to download it.  If Artists say folks aren't buying Poser stuff at Daz this is one of the reasons why.
