Forum help - suddenly cannot upload images

CybersoxCybersox Posts: 9,278

It was working fine earlier, but this moring I accidentally tried to upload a file in this thread - http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/105691/tween-julie-7#latest - that was bigger than 2000 and ever since nothing I've tried to upload will load.  My suspcion is that I overloaded the queue somehow, so I went to the help page to open a ticket...and discovered that there does not seem to be a help section for the forum software.

So... who does fix this kind of stuff?

I would submit it to the help desk like any other ticket. Maybe title it something like 'Forum Pictures won't Upload' , chose "Not Applicable" for the Application; and choose Technical Support for the department.

That said have you tried to clear cache, delete temporary files, and restart your computer?

Shut off the computer, cleared the cache, refreshed firefox plugins, tried Internet explorer, tried uploading to a different thread, tried different files, plus I could upload an image to my gallery and other sites just fine, but it won't let me link that to the forum either so the odds are pretty good that it's got something directly to do with the forum software.  The thing is, I seem to recall hearing someone say that the forum isn't even run by the same people who do anything else and I couldn't find any mention of the forums anywhere on the help pages, except in cases where it says things like "refer to the forums"...

Oh well, I guess it can't hurt to send a help request and see what happens...

I've had this problem too for no particular reason sometimes. I usually just have to keep trying the same file repeatedly until it actually works.

For instance, I tried to attach a test image. The first time, it just said "Uploading..." indefinitely. The second time, it worked. Other times, it took more than just two tries to get it to go through.

Edit: Yeah, it just attached the image once, even though I uploaded it twice. It was still saying uploading for the first one when I hit post.

...I get the "broken image" Icon from time to time even with smaller attachments. .Somtimes it has taken two or three tries to get it to work.

I understand that you tried with a smaller version then and it still did not work? Did you use any special signs or spaces in the image title?

No, no special signs. Spaces have never been a problem in the past.

I guess then the only thing is to wait for help desk to respond.

Yes, the forum software just seems to decide every now and then it's not going to accept an image. I have to delete the attachment (done by right-clicking on the "dud" icon) and retry. Sometimes I have to retry several times, but it always works... eventually.

That doesn't sound like what's happening to me.  I just get the words "uploading" forever.

Do you have any saved drafts that you could delete? I'm thinking maybe a draft was saved with that bad over 2000 image and is clogging the works.

    Greetings,

The link in the Julie 7 thread was an img with link but the image URL pointed to the gallery HTML page, which won't work.  You needed to replace the image source (currently http://www.daz3d.com/gallery/#images/194696/ ) with http://www.daz3d.com/galleryimage/image/194696/tween-julie-with-growing-up-1_730_auto.jpg and it should show your linked image again.

I'm _guessing_ that you copied the link, to put in the 'link' tab of the img properties, but it got put in the URL field of the Image Info instead or in addition.

No, though that's a good idea.  I went back and double checked and deleted some old non-related drafts, but it made no difference.

Who knows what I was doing... that was the first time I'd ever used the galleries here, let alone tried to link internally across the site.  At least I know what I was doing wrong on THAT, now, so I have an alternative while I wait to find out what's wrong with the normal upload.  Thanks for the assist. :)
