Bryce is a 3D rendering program that can import models from other 3D applications and produce images from them. You can't pose Poser or DAZ Studio figures in Bryce they can only be static, unless you are willing to use the DAZ Studio bridge program for animation, and I wouldn't recommend it. For still images the Bryce renderer is considered special by some people because of the unique quality of light it produces. Bryce is also great for making landscapes and space scenes.
Bryce has not been updated recently though and so may not run reliably (or at all) on some of the latest versions of modern operating systems. The Mac version needs an old Mac with an old OS to run at all and the Windows version is inconsistent on recent versions of Windows. Some users report few or no problems running it on recent Windows systems, some users find it impossiible. Personally I like Bruce a lot and I have an old Mac available so I still run it. If you can get it free or cheap by all means try it out, it can produce some great results. I personally don't consider it useful for animation though, I use it for stills only. Others do use it for aimation so it can be done.
The best thing about Bryce for me is that it is fun to play around with. It's impossible to explain why, you would need to try it. Then you'd run into one of Bryce's greatest problems, the user interface which is tricky in places and ranges from inspired to insane depending upon what you're trying to do. I learned it very quickly, some people just find it frustrating and annoying. Once again, you would only find out if you try it. f you want a complex new toy for making landscape still images Bryce is fairly good for that. It renders slowly though, compared to more modern software.
