I think the thumbnail idea is great.. I admit, I'm kind of anal about some of my thumbnails. Used the same male character at the exact angle, and same lights to make the shot. Then I got sloppy and just let whatever figure preset I had chosen to use for the render.

Then I got to really only converting the heads. Unless there is something really different I need to have, I can dial most m4/v4 figure shapes. Except for the male pecs.

Nadino has some wonderful freebies and that includes a Daz Studio Image Sizes Kit. It helps you with more than just thumbnails and is very easy to follow. Check out the first link!

Thanks for the info SereneNight. Was just curious.

For the thumbnails GenX2 thread, I personally just use the thumbnails that are provided on the product page. Anyone who wants to participate can do their own. Also, if folks want to do a before/after that's fine too. Like Hadley V4 and then Hadley Genesis. I'll go make the thread. If it doesn't get used much, not a problem as I'm doing mine anyway as I plow through the V4's. Everyone start looking at the thumbnails, etc that you have and we'll get it rolling in a bit.

One question, are all the graphics shown inside the studio png's?

    Thanks for that Novica! :)

I believe all the images used inside studio are pngs. I could be wrong but I haven't found a jpg in my studio folder before lol

I will do a couple unusual ones. It will have to wait until later but I have more than a few

Okay, here we go. I posted Hadley as an example. I'm getting ready to dial up Arinae (V4) onto Genesis and do that one, already GenX2'd it last night (when the slider for V4 wouldn't appear.)

    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/56224/

Edit: well, dumb. I didn't save her when the studio was acting up, so I'll have to redo her. Anyway, Arinae's in the works.

You take a peek at the thread and if there's something else you can think of, let me know. You're the official technical advisor. :)

Arinae for V4 (Daz Originals / Sarsa / Thorne)
Kameez for Genesis (Daz Originals / Bobbie25)
End of Summer Hair for Genesis and Genesis 2 Female(s) (Daz Originals / goldtassel)

    http://www.daz3d.com/arinae-for-v4
    http://www.daz3d.com/kameez-for-genesis
    http://www.daz3d.com/end-of-summer-hair-for-genesis-and-genesis-2-female-s

Be sure and smooth this hair to 20+, it is REALLY crinkly. Also, I reported it, you can't find it if you do a search (you get something stupid like "I can't help you with that but here's a bunch of unrelated stuff that you can look at." Vendors- you need to check your products and do a search to see if you are missing out on sales due to the store search.

So this is Arinae V4 onto Genesis. Note the forehead blemish- nice to have some realism!
Kameez comes with a cowl/shawl too- but I didn't feel like messing with that with the long hair. (and pants.)

yes, all the thumbnails are .png, 91x91 pixels for the regular ones. If you make them larger than 91x91 DS will automatically resize them and they don't look as nice.

Liz Character and Hair (Daz Originals)
VH Bo-Ann for Victoria 4 (NO LONGER IN STORE)

    http://www.daz3d.com/liz-character-and-hair

This is Bo-Ann V4 GenX2'd onto Genesis. Check out Liz Hair- use the Aiko slider to get it to expand and fit the head. Works beautifully! You can also move the bangs and the sides, increase the volume. Would look great on kids and guys too. It's designed for the Roaring 20's.

Some nice work on these. =-) I like a lot of the V4 and M4 heads in particular.

I wanted a challenge, so I did attempt to convert Calvin V4 for you. Converting him to Gen 2 Female did not entirely work- His head looked fine, but the bod was a disaster. (to be fair to LR, I think this was before a time when M4 existed). I then tried conversion to Gen 2 male, but still experiencing issues with the chest.

I would probably dial the Nalin bod with this figure for gen 2 female or replicate the bod with existing gen 2 male morphs fi you used gen 2 male.

Is there any particular character you would like to see? I do have a few m4's to convert if you like.

Thanks SereneNight :) Any of the M4's would be fine. I have SO many of the V4's to tackle, it isn't even funny.
A big question- how do you do the conversion from the Gen 4s to the Genesis 2s? Do you do them onto Genesis first, then save as character preset, then repeat what was done to get the Gen 4 to Genesis? Or do you go straight from Gen 4 to Genesis 2?

    Orianne character for V4
Augusta Hair for Genesis, Genesis 2 Female(s)

    EDIT: Shown GenX'd onto Genesis.

This looks vintage to me, like she was some African safari tourist and this was a quick snapshot inside a tent or something. The color scheme and the frayed collar and shirt material I suppose. Anyway, looks like a moment out of time.

Does anyone know that shirt? All it says is Essence. Going to the file location wasn't helpful. It's for Genesis. That's the "male" material. The other material is a white with beautiful gold trim.

FYI, I am no longer putting the vendor name's with the products as I started doing that so I could arrange all these posts with images by vendor and index them. I've got too many other things I want to do / need to do so not going to index anything. So the IGC's don't need to put the vendors if they don't want to.

Augusta Hair rendered at a fairly good speed. Not a zipster but not a groaner either.

I go straight from Gen 4 to gen 2. In general I select Gen 2 Male as target. I convert the head first, then zero my morphs and convert the bod.

Nadino showed me a neat trick recently. =-) In gen x you can disable your morphs so they don't bog down your load time. It is located under Morphs tab. When you click the selected character, such as genesis or v4, and you can disable unused morphs. These can be enabled at some future point so you can use.

    Erika for Victoria 4
    Radiant Jaguar Hair

    http://www.daz3d.com/erika-for-v4
    http://www.daz3d.com/radiant-jaguar-hair-for-genesis

GenX'd onto Genesis: This one didn't transfer over well at all for the lips. (I have the Corrected V4 UV too) I've included the GenX'd, then the fixed one. It's not perfect but I'm not using this character at the moment and not spending anymore time on it.

Here's the fixes I used to get the lips more heart shaped, reduced in size, with the curves between the lips (which was almost flatlined) I didn't get the peaks fixed, they need to go closer together and you'd do that with the nose settings. (Off the top of my head I think it's philtrum)

This will get you started so far as lip changes.
    Lip Lower Width -1.15
    Lip Upper Curves 0.038
    Mouth Width 0.27
    Mouth Curves 0.94
    Mouth Size -0.41
    Lip Upper Size -0.053
    Lip Square -0.038
    Lip Heart -0.39
    Lip Top Peak 1.66
    Lip Lower Size 0.40

    Eliza for V4
    Portia Hair 2

    http://www.daz3d.com/eliza-for-v4
    http://www.daz3d.com/portia-hair-2

    GenX'd onto Genesis.
Although my library says Portia Hair, that's for Gen 3 so I am assuming since it was under Genesis, it would be the Portia Hair 2. Fun, bouncy hairstyle! (Not really quick on the render scale. One hour 20 minutes for 65% of the render, and that's mostly hair and only then moving onto the face that is past the hair.)

Eliza didn't do as good with the eyes that Erika did- here's my adjustments if you want to try them. (Yes, she had an eye fix. Note I tried it AFTER GenX'ing like I did with Erika. Did NOT GenX the eye fix with the figure.

LOVE THESE EYEBROWS! Look at the individual hairs under the brows.

These are XYZ translations that I used to tweak the eyes. A good starting point as I think they look normal.
    Right eye -0.21 / .0012 / .0001
    Left eye 0.16/ -0.0042 / 0.0002

Also showing you how nicely the eyelashes can be shortened, uncurled, and one layer hidden so she doesn't seem like a doll or a mascara commercial.

BTW, what are you folks using for resolution? It can go up to 50, and while I understand lower numbers can cause too much smoothing, I'm using 20 and liking it. I've seen some screenshots of people using 10, and some using 50. That's quite a spread. These are all at 20.

Hi Novica, just curious what resolution are you refering to?

    I thought so too!

The Resolution is in GenX, down at the bottom. You can go from 0 (I guess) up to 50. The lower the number, the more smoothing. I think the default is 50. (I read through the entire 66 pages of that GenX thread, whew. Saw all kinds of variations in that setting in people's screenshots and discussion. 20 works for me and I'm not seeing much of a difference when I tested 30)

I'm not getting the mouths that I think I should be getting with GenX. I've tried it both ways to ensure I'm doing it right. (With bringing over V4 and the injection morphs, then the next time using "Recent" and selecting V4. Both times, the mouths aren't going into as curvy of a shape as they should. (As you can tell from my "fixed" gal that I showed you. I did Lianne and her eyes are very large and mouth not curvy enough. Did her FOUR TIMES. I was also a bit confused on the "all" and "head" so I tried it with only "all" and then with the "head" because I thought maybe the head + all was screwing up the eyes (not the case.)

Can someone who has her take a peek- does the "all" include the head and how can you tell?

    Here she is-

Taking a second look at the V4 one, perhaps her eyes are this big. The mouth might be closer than I thought.

When you have too much time on your hands (or whether you do or not.) What do you see in the rocks? I have a cranky old woman, a gorilla with some kind of face hugging it, a seal (on top the rocks), part of a baby face (further to the right of the seal, barely seen) some demon with his mouth open, part of a horse head, etc.

Looking at it, my demon has his mouth shut with a very, very hard jaw line and his chin thrust forward. (Then again, I see that with his mouth open too.)

It's a very creative observation. My wife has often said she sees faces in the rockcliffs of previous sets too. I defintiely see the protruding chin guy and the gorrilla, and its almost like a Pokemon in the bottom right corner (could also be "Toothless" too) . I always try to place a sunlight so it skims the surface of the rocks and brings out the details, something I learned from my photography days, but I apparently have been missing the bigger picture. Too cool. Thanks for sharing it.
