I DO wish there was a 'hide this from future searches.' I often pick up freebies just to clear them from the store, but now I'm going to have to be more careful least I give Daz the wrong idea about my support.
ah better
Ditto. Also my sentiments exactly.
Unfortunately, I had already "purchased" this item before coming to the Forums. I have just filed ticket #211407 asking for a refund and removal from my product library.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I can't trust a company that is not up front with its customers.
It is marked as PC+ and is the free weekly PC+ item. I want it replaced with an item that conforms with DAZ's enticement to be a PC+ member.
Well, at the risk of repetition (but not speculation, because that would be, well, speculative) I, like many others, want the option to filter the store on DRM content; a check box "Exclude DRM'd Products" that sticks between sessions would be fine. Even better is a special icon overlaying the product thumbnail in the bottom right corner. I suggested a padlock before, but how about a little pile of rotting fish bones?
Check again; it isn't marked PC+. While getting the weekly freebie is one of the PC+ perks, the items themselves are usually not a PC+ item and revert to their store normal sales status after a week. None-the-less I would really appreciate it being replaced or made available outside of DAZ Connect
Pretty bizzare that a product which claims it does not support Poser would include a CR2 file. I assume when the unnamed PA created this he/she intended it for both DS and Poser, but DAZ in their wisdom picked it as a good candidate for a Connect Only encrypted product, except of course it is only partially encrypted. Maybe we need a new install type : Connect Only, Partially Encrypted, Some Poser support

Do I hear the word "mistake" starting to echo in the far distance?
Apparently it's not even partially encrypted. I think I'm remembering right that encrypted .duf files have a different extention to indicate their nature. All in all, pretty weird. A mistake somewhere surely. Either it wasn't supposed to be listed as Encrypted only, or it was supposed to be encrypted before release. The former is forgivable, mistakes happen. The latter on the other hand would involve stripping out poser compatibility for the sake of DRM, and that I take issue with. I may not use Poser anymore, but stripping out already available compatibility (not just export through DSON, but native poser file format compatibility) is deliberately crippling a product no matter what your opinion of DRM or Connect is.
File a ticket so management knows there is a problem. We've been told repeatedly they do not read the forums.
+1 x 1000 I agree with you completely, KK.
Very good tactics against the pirates - to make 'em laugh to death

I'm not closing the door; I'm closing my wallet, trust, and goodwill.
In the quest to make things easier for new users, they should remember that more experienced users want to continue using methods and have access to features that they've gotten used to using. Sometimes removing old features is unavoidable or even desirable, but Connect strikes me as an attempt to implement an 'easy mode' for content management. Which is fine. I actually like connect other than some not so minor technical issues that your tech people are getting an earful of. But the Connect Only content can be taken as a means of forcing adoption of this 'easy mode' which is not cool. I can understand where it's related to the encryption, though that is a problem in and of itself. I just want to strongly suggest that there never come a time where unencrypted content is deliberately released as Connect Only as the only feature that could possibly come from that is a rather questionable sort of convenience. (Though at least for those who like working in 'expert' mode, the non-encrypted Connect content does install in neat little single folders that can be modifiied to taste, zipped for backup and moved to wherever works for you. Sorta saves the step of unzipping to a new folder to fix vanity folders and such. Just have to zip it up for backup when done. Oh, and probably tell connect that you've unistalled it after you've done what you needed to since that'd likely leave an empty folder where it expects to find something. About the only issue would be not having the metadata one gets from DIM, but if you're not bothering with the Smart Content, that's usually not an issue, I think.)
I would like the toll booth freebie but it is encrypted. I'm paying for my membership. Can we get the freebie unencrypted for a price? I'm no pirate. I'm willing to pay to buy what I want, but I won't do DRM. If this continues I will drop my membership. I keep getting my posts deleted. I'm not saying anything that is a flame. Why?
Go ahead and file a ticket on it even if it does take a bit of extra time. Let the powers that be know how you feel.
I wasn't thrilled when the PC killed the 1.99 items. I hardly ever use both monthly discounts because 1 excludes PC items and the other excludes new releases. It always ends up being cheaper to pay the sale price and not use the coupons. Now, you want me to upgrade to 4.9 just to download a PC freebie that' s not even encrypted?
Strike 3, Daz.
Here, Hear! Make Momma happy! - I wont shop here until she sings praise!
Geez, I suppose you want me to wear a tie and not pee on the potted plant in the corner too? That's asking a lot.
But it's probably why I only posted once in this thread so far... Like my imaginary friend used to say, "If you don't have anything nice to say about encrypted content, stop wearing that pantomime gorilla costume"... And I think that true about most things in life...
Besides its not like anything I'd ever say, mention or suggest to DAZ3D would ever be taken serious, considered or deemed worth more than a thimble full of amoeba farts, so why bother... This thread and all the others like it that went before, for all they worth, is just one step above slapping a "Thoughts and Suggestions" sticker on a paper shredder and leaving it out in the hall, with a "Thank you for your input!" sticker on the collection bin... Nice that you have somewhere to put them, but ain't gonna change nothin, yeah?
Its not like this thread is a sticky anymore... It's been cut away to float off downstream and be forgotten, like a bear poop in a mountain brook... I probably could of come up with a better analogy, but I'm feeling lazy.
The great thing about the internet is that you can piss off boatloads of customers and more than likely new ones will come along and nobody will know or notice anything was wrong... Whereas in the past real stores had a more or less limited supply of customers and if you pissed enough off, you saw a result... Besides with all this expansion into game content and possible income from 3D printing, the plain old Studio segment is probably looking a little tired and old, the place to put the money is probably not on a generation of people who think DRM, encryption, and subscriptions are wrong, but a new generation who is growing up with that as standard operating procedure.
We are all replaceable.
But yeah, I should be well behaved and I do feel bad about peeing on that plant, but serious?... Seriously, as serious as this subject is, nothing will seriously come from our complaints or me being serious and though I've seriously considered being serious, all I can do is to just think of comedic, satirical replies to most of the posts here and seriously try to not post them.
Its not that I think we shouldn't voice our opinion on this, it's just that I don't think it really matters...
The real issue here is that now that it's been shown to not be actually encrypted, the 'test' nature of this is completely invalid. People, ESPECIALLY pirates, will download it asap, so they can get it before the encryption gets turned back on. I daresay they've already got it.
Furthermore, as multiple posts can attest to, many picked it up without even checking to see it was encrypted....since it was a freebie to PC members. But now they are returning it, since they don't want to be considered 'supporting' DRM. But I'd be willing to bet that they won't include 'returns' in their numbers.....just sales.
And a lot of people (not on the forums) probably did the same.....and may not have noticed it was supposed to be encrypted, and since it isn't, they won't EVER notice. Which means the 'sale' doesn't accurately represent whether or not they support the DRM/Encryption.
POOR test design, and poor test implementation.
Edited to add: Richard posted only seconds after. Glad to hear this was simply a mistake. Still don't support DRM, though.
Jack and I have just spoken to Daz management. This was a case of wires getting crossed, there was absolutely no intention to deprive PC+ members of their promised benefits so the product will be fixed to work as a standard download. There may well, in future, be special Connect-only encrypted freebies but they will not be the PC+ monthly or weekly freebies.
Go ahead and file a ticket on it even if it does take a bit of extra time. Let the powers that be know how you feel.
Where is the Unflated DAZ Pony when we need it?
Good thing we spoke up about it then rather than keeping quiet, or the mistake might never have been noticed
Thanks Jack and Richard for taking the concern to management!
There, now everyone who wanted the Toll Booth can get it :)
Thank you Richard and Jack. :)
By the number of support tickets filed for a refund and removal from product libraries.
