Description
Medusa was young, very beautiful, and a priestess of Athena. As such, she was devoted to a life of celibacy. Her beauty and innocence however, captivated the eye of Poseidon, God of the Sea. He wooed her to no avail, so one day he came to the temple and ravished the young priestess.
It was unclear if Medusa surrendered in a moment of weakness, or whether Poseidon used force. Nevertheless, Athena was enraged that her temple was so profaned by her own priestess. She turned Medusa's hair into serpents, and placed a terrible spell upon her. Any person who sees her face would turn to stone. Cursed, abandoned, and alone, Medusa left and hid herself away from the sight of others.
And so began the sad and tragic story of Medusa.
