the Carrara cube annoyed the Poser Runtime the other day!
modelled, boned and morphed the cube into Andy and then also modelled the glass of beer and rolled up newspaper..

Is there a best thread for this kind of Carrarra chat, should i go further with it for G8 (as opposed to just modelling non-figures which is current focus)?

are some but assume you have Misty's character preset
honestly though I would render a png image series with alpha in DAZ studio and put them on a plane or splat because Carrara also does animated texture with alpha
I do this quite often myself
I own Octane Render 4 Carrara which is the only reason why I bother using the later charactors at all for animation
stills an obj import posed would suffice and an obj export from D|S can have draped Dforce clothing, HD morphs, geografts etc
if you do want to use charactors rigged in Carrara up to Genesis 2 is supported natively and most of the legacy stuff works, geografts don't and a few very D|S specific things don't
or just render backgrounds for DAZ studio, I do that too
or animated backgrounds to add in post
Carrara scenes are awesome with replicators, terrain, trees, particles, physics etc
if you like vast folders of files The Mystery is the Point's Sagan does obj series exports and a plugin from Digital Carvers Guild now free and opensource will import obj series frame by frame which gets you totally HD characters with their exported Dforce clothing simulations etc one obj at a time loaded and rendered (just as fast as any animated render)
Carrara is faster than 3Delight and honestly if going PBR not important faster than iray
that's like a treasure trove of info! thank you so much!

Saved it. Will go through as it pops up with my creations.
Have a great day!

It's pretty inaccurate about costs, though, because both Maya and Houdini are available for much less than he cited. Maya Indie is $305/year and Houdini Indie is $269/year. The requirement for both is your annual revenue is less than $100,000, and if you're making that much money off your work, you can afford the full versions anyway. This isn't an argument for or against any particular program, just pointing out that he's being lazy with the facts. If you want to use Blender, go ahead and do that. If you want to use Maya or Houdini, they're much more affordable than he wants you to think.
edit: and Carrara has been available for much less than $65, if that's something you're interested in.
Animated ocean backgroundIf making this in Carrara, why not use an Ocean primitive?. You can set the "system period"(General -> ocean) to the same as the animation time and have a seamless loop.
Learning 3Delight AgainMaking this topic to avoid cluttering “Show Us You 3DL Renders” which probably wasn’t meant for questions. If such a topic already exists, let me know & will ask Moderator to delete.
So on to the fun. As title implies, forgotten how to use most of 3DL and would like to use the shader more often.
1.) How are users able to get pull-down menus for 2D files in DS 4.20? I’m having to swap between 4.12 to load some of them.
2.) Cornea & ‘popping’ eyes out.
“3Delight message #43 (Severity 1): R5009: “displacementbound” attribute without “sphere” value has no effect”
In plain English, what does that mean?
Eye moisture seems reflective but the cornea rsl I saved from G3 doesn't seem to have any reflection & appears flat. Tried the old “cornea bulge” trick-- no luck.
Suggestions to get the eyes to pop out?

3.) Pint of ale looks dark. The back of the 10 meter test room is dark, or I'm missing something?

For that matter, not sure if glass would be casting a slight shadow. It's enabled.
Anyway, tips, points or links to previous topics about it welcome.

Stepping away from the clothing project for just a moment for another tree project. Have been looking at tree modeling in Blender. Thought I would share a recent video tutorial by Bro 3D, who posts some Blender videos. I have used Carrara to make trees in the past. I even have a tree for Daz Studio that was initially modeled in Carrara. This post is a different workflow. It shows how a Blender add-on can be used to make trees.
The tutorial video is here. If you find it helpful, I encourage you to Like and subscribe to Bro 3D for making sharing.

Carrara actually uses quaternions just not ones compatible with the DAZ studio flavour
there are typos in the hidden naming of bones in Genesis 3 and 8/8.5 that crash Carrara that were fixed in Genesis 9 (or rather not misnamed in the matching hidden node) https://www.renderosity.com/forums/comments/4312857/permalink
Mistylara fixed them in DSON editor but (notepad should work too) on the base character files but sadly she pulled her genesis 3 characters from the Renderosity marketplace
and has been MIA for a couple years (am very concerned)
she has a freebie for Genesis 8.1 up still
https://www.renderosity.com/freestuff/items/88523/carrara-presets-for-genesis-81?AID=4737
Sorry to hear Mistylara is MIA :(.
Thanks alot for all that handy info & links! Looked and saved.
If I end up using Carrara 8.5pro for any G8 work, would probably fix those names and post at Rendo for G8, assuming any interest.
With that link, most of the ID of issue seems already done.
Different Quaternions - good to know. Thanks for also being an unofficial Carrara archivist :)
As for DS5, so many wishes for features.
We are only on 4.22.*.*.
So maybe lots of time yet ;)
In meantime, enjoying the DS beta addons. :)I tried looking myself but too much to go through and of course I have Misty's characters, there are a few other issues with weightmapping on a foot that manifests in FBX exports to other programs too

Don't just pull it because a forum thread doesn't get noticed, and don't only do it if there's an immediate audience. There is a Much Larger audience out there looking for Daz Studio help who refuse to come to the forum. So don't base your work's usefulness a single forum thread question.
My Site has been up for several years now and was originally mostly a Carrara Zone. Getting into Daz Studio, it's now showing my adventures in that - but nothing like what you're talking about, which I think would gather a huge audience once it's Live and people can buy/view it. But we have to give these things time to be discovered - especially beyond this forum!
I know an impressive handful of friends who have been scared away already, never to return.
Moves oars with handsI should also add that, since Genesis 1 and 2 are so similar, My Genesis 2 Pose Bone Minion Bundle works on all of my Genesis 1 motions as well, for use with all other generations. Really handy.
For V4 and M4, I can load my Genesis 2 Bone Minion and use all of my Genesis and Genesis 2 motions, along with all of my Mixamo FBX downloads, which are now Genesis 2 Female animated Pose files in my library.

Need a bit of help - can't get Carrara to startthat my friend is the problem..

there is a fix
Carrara crashes with Huion tablet ( Workaround ) - Daz 3D Forums
Need a bit of help - can't get Carrara to startSo I decided to give Carrara a try - I've had it forever, just never got around to it.
I've tried installing the 64 bit version with DIM - and from the downloadable insttaller. I've tried installing to my preferred directory - D:\bits-64\DAZ 3D\ and to the default Program Files on the C: drive.
It won't start. I click on the desktop shortcut or on the program in the start menu and I get a screen blink like something is loadng - and that's it. No log that I can find; nothing in the system logs.
The system is Windows 10 Pro, 64 GB, dual 27 inch 1920 X 1280 monitors on an Nvidia 1080 TI. No internet access from the system, but running Windows Defender.
Where do I look? Do I need to have something besides the main app installed before it will run?

Carrara also has a lot in common with Hexagon
Nice to hear Hex & Carrara have alot in common.
Hex is just an awesome program for quick morph-making.
So have hopes for Carrara for some things.Hopefully DS5 will include an option to select what to send to Hex (or Zbrush).
Right now if send base g8f, it auto-sends all children.
Would be so nice for DS5 to have option to toggle this and not that.
Right now, Little bit more work for spontaneous morphs.See you wrote in another thread (2021) that Carrara needs blended weights?
Saw in Carrara 8.5 pro features that General Weights are seamless fit?
Just trying to figure out what can do and not.
Tried an ultra simple 3ds import from Carrara (not .obj) and looked good.btw. the displacement painting, 3d paiting and bullet physics looked intriguing too.

Thanks Wendy. It was enough to convince me to buy it yesterday while at a discounted price. I was able to model more in 15 minutes with Cararra than I managed in 8 hours with Blender.

I'm surprised you didn't include Bryce.
thanks, I actually think an iray or at least any GPU driven render engine addon to Bryce would be awesome, my main gripe with it is the working in wireframe and slowness of rendering
adding it to D|S5 would certainly also be awesome
I was mainly thinking of modelling capabilities for D|S but yes the other features of Carrara and Bryce some of which are already being addressed by PAs are great additions
Alberto recently added booleans which Bryce has
