  • Face Transfer Limits?

I bought the Face Transfer Unlimited three years ago. Today, I started it up after not using it for about a year and noticed some difference. The thing that gets me I saw a "Save" tab and it said I had only 3 saves left. What the heck does that mean? And now my model has a DAZ logo printed on her forehead.

  • Face Transfer

You might want to check out Face Transfer Shapes for Genesis 8 | Daz 3D. Face transfer requires a frontal facial Shot. The forehead must be clear of hair. The shape utility will correct the shape into something You like.

  • Face Transfer

IMO all face transfer apps rely on quality rssources to get good results. headshop says it works better with less than perfect images, but I have seen users say otherwsie. To get "perfect" results, a user needs to actually photograph the person and create the best quality images to use with any programs.

  • I tried the Daz To Blender Bridge

After initial merry-go-round trying to figure out what to do, I managed to learn how to get a Daz3D character into Blender.  I am using Daz Studio Pro 4.2.xx and Blender3D version 3.2 (nVidia Omniverse flavour).

I got a python script error when I loaded the Daz3D content from the Daz To Blender tab (see screen capture).

I also lost the pose which my character had; the figure reverted to its default pose and shape.  I had to dial back the character morph / shape.

I have no idea how to pose the character inside Blender3D.

The shaders are smoothly converted and I can use Cycles with GPU Compute option. Blazing fast rendering: speed of light, as it were.

Big problem: hands are distorted in Blender; how to fix, please ? (I suspect something to do with morphs or scaling, but don't know how to access controls).

  • Is there a way to convert a complete G8m body texture to G8f?

If you want to permanently convert the textures to a different UV, you'll want to familiarize yourself with the Map Transfer function.

  • Face Transfer

Hi everyone, I'm thinking about purchasing Face Transfer from the Daz Store, but I noticed that if your photos aren't "perfect" you don't get the results you want. Not every picture can be with a neutral face and straight on. What if the only photo you have to use has the person smiling, or wearing glasses? Is there a way to fix this? Is there another piece of software that does it better?

  • DAZ textures in Substance Painter - big ole rant + questions

    * Does anyone have ANY IDEA how to simulate the sorcery behind DAZ's Translucency and SSS settings in Substance Painter? Scattering in SP gives you visible SSS in the preview, but its Iray render makes everything way too light. Translucency doesn't seem to do much of anything, and adding the slightly lighter DAZ translucency texture map doesn't make any difference. Suppose I wanted to precisely paint translucent/SSS areas of a creature wing or a piece of food  - how on earth would you set it up so that Studio would render it properly?

No idea. Works great for inanimate stuff. I'm not particularly impressed with its skin results to start with and only use it as a starting point and do most of the skin work outside of Substance in Photoshop or a similar program. I get the impression it was created initially with hard body in mind, and organics were kind of an afterthought added in later.

    * How do you figure out how much Roughness to put on any surface when you can't also adjust the specular strength to check where the reflections are? DAZ characters, especially 8.1 ones, come with a Roughness map and specular values set correctly, but how can you make new ones in Substance Painter if you can't simulate those Dual Lobe values and such?

If Substance spits out a map, it's designed for a setting of 1 for its render setup and the map controls it. Black is 0, White is 1. YMMV when importing into Daz. The material qualities in Substance are of variable for starters, and their renderer is a little off from iray. Bump/Norm are MUCH stronger in Substance. There are several tutorial products here at Daz that have recommended settings.

    * No height maps for 8.1 characters means that elements of the character's morph are always applied when you load in Normals for surface detail even when using a default G8.1 figure. You can see creases under the nose that shouldn't be there, shaded areas for wrinkles where there are none, etc. I assume these would have to be painted out of the normal maps manually?

Maps look best designed for the character they are made for. If you don't want features in the map, do your work on a base G8/8.1 instead of a shaped one. That would be fine for creating an MR, but for a character, you really want those details in there.

    * 8.1's  AO maps make everything ridiculously dark in Substance Painter if you try applying them to an Ambient Occlusion channel. Has anyone been able to put these to any use, or should you just bake new ones in Substance Painter?

AO maps for Daz are closer to inverted roughness maps from Substance (though that's not what they are). Taking Daz Iray maps into Substance won't give you the same look as it will in Daz. I use varying combinations of mesh maps to make AO maps for Daz.

    * Is there still REALLY no way to revert a Substance Painter slider to it's default value?

What sliders? I mean... you can restart substance?

A big issue here is that this really is an artform. Tastes vary greatly and unfortunately there's no "Do this to get this result every time." What you start with plays a factor, what you're going for, etc. Substance has training videos up on their site that I highly recommend you go through. While there are a lot of PAs that use Substance, most don't do the same thing every time. In fact it can vary wildly project to project. And again, I'd recommend the tutorials available at Daz for Substance.

  • Strigolai for DAZ Big Cat 2

Downloaded, about to install ... there is no data folder so this isn't a regular kind of morph. Anyways will see what happens.

But I am curious about your name field in this file, this can happen for a few reasons one being this computer full of fonts doesn't have the font you were using but still, it's very long, figured you might be saying something interesting?

The screen image can only show part of the field.

The forum is glitching again ... will upload image.

    Temporarily Here: DA Link

    Loads fine :-)

  • Convert object in Follower/Wardrobe?

Hi everyone! I bought this product: https://www.daz3d.com/rssy-ultimate-clothing-fixer

I would like to apply it on an obj that I imported and converted with the transfer utility. I get this error:

Selected item is not clothing. Item is "follower" content. This script works with items of follower/wardrobe or follower/Accessory content.

How can I convert my object to follower/wardrobe?

    thank you.

  • No Product Key For FaceGen

    DanniStories said:

I used my key and FaceGen is telling me I've installed it too many times. Now I have to wait for a reply from FaceGen customer support. Anyone else having this issue? It's not my fault that Windows 10 has given me so many issues in the past six months after a disaster Windows 11 Install that made me have to reformat my HD three times, and I just got my PC from the shop last month after a Blue Screen Of Death and another C: reformat.

There is a rare problem on Win 10 machines that results in vanishing files. I never know when my personal photographs are going to be in empty directories with only a desktop.ini file staring me in the face. Maybe I just have too many files, period, but I like my files, and I want them all. So far I never lost programs, or files vital to programs, so I count myself very lucky. But it is high up on my list of Windows 10 problems that I have to deal with, and I am constantly recopying files from my many backups. Add to this a new PC that should be blazingly fast, yet I am waiting up to 30 seconds for the stupid clipboard to paste a simple email address into my Gmail. This is the same in all programs, not just my browser. Even Notepad does this. My word processor hangs in the middle of my typing a scene that I am desperate to get onto the page before I forget parts of it. Then it finally pastes the partial sentence and I find I have misspelled several words because I couldn't see what I was typing.

I am fit to be tied, needless to say. When I can afford to do it, I am going to have my stupid SSD C: drive replaced with a cavernous internal traditional drive that can hold all my tons of files. Getting that SSD was the all-time stupidest hardware decision I have ever made, and I will never have one as my main drive again. It is too small to hold much and it's too much trouble to point everything at my portable drives. Why can't someone at Microsoft care enough to fix Windows 10 so I can point my programs at whatever hard drive I want to? I never understood the logic in forcing corporate norms of multitudinous deployment and policies and accounts on a PC that only has one user: Me.

Ok, rant over, at least until someone at FaceGen responds to my email and saves my sanity.

It is not uncommon for some software programs to reject a used key. There's another company whose programs I liked BUT getting a key also involved making long distance phone calls so I no longer buy any of their programs. They were all lost after the first reinstall of the XP OS years back.

As to vanishing files, W10 has a very annoying habit of putting unused drives "to sleep" so they need a bit of time to "wake up" when action is required with them. If "suddenly" everything seems to be gone, don't panic, it's likely still there, just couldn't be read. Reboot the computer. Also yes, some folders do seem to max out with certain files ... too many .png files in one folder did weird things .. solution was to transfer the lot to another folder. Everything transferred over just fine.

  • Character creation tutorial - is it up to date and of quality ?

I own this product. The video is not about creating a totally new character from scratch and rigging it. This tutorial is about how to start with an existing Daz3D character (Genesis 8 Female is the example) and make custom morphs and save the character in a form that can be sold or given as a freebie. It covers things like exporting from Daz Studio and importing into Blender, modifying the shape in Blender and making that a morph in Daz Studio. It includes how to create Joint Control Morphs (JCM), Morph Control Morphs (MCM), Partial Head Morphs (PHM), Full Body Morphs (FBM), Adjust Rigging to Shape, ERC Freeze, etc.. It is very detailed and SickleYield explains WHY as well as HOW to do things.

The audio and video quality is good. SickleYield speaks very clearly. The video is 1920 by 1080 resolution. The video is clear enough and high resolution enough for me to see the text of the menus in both the Daz Studio sections and the Blender sections. Occasionally there are some artifacts in the video, but they don't interfere with understanding what is going on.

The video uses an older version of Blender (2.78). The current version of Blender (3.2) has a very changed interface. If you are not familiar with the evolution of Blender and how it has changed, I imagine you will have some trouble adapting the Blender instructions to the current version. I think Daz Studio 4.20 is close enough to 4.10 that you won't have much trouble following the Daz Studio portion of the video.

  • How to make a remove shaping preset morph?

I see it all the time in vendor products, there will be a shaping preset to dial the morph (or morphs) of the character up to 100%, and also one to dial the morph (or combination of morphs) to 0%.

If I've created a custom morph for my genesis, it's pretty easy to add a shaping preset to dial that morph up to 100%.  But how do I make a shaping preset that dials only that morph and no others back down to 0%?

Have no idea how the pros are doing this, but the simple way is to go into the actual folder, make a copy of the preset. Rename it appropriately. Edit it with a text editor such as NoteTab Light, or Notepad [if the file isn't too big] ... all the places where you find a "1" - replace that "1" with "0" ... Make a matching icon for it, naming it the very same as the .duf file. Close folder, back in D/S, refresh the folders if required, and there it is. Test it, hopefully it works as intended.

Damn, that's clever.  I ought to have thought of that lol.  I was so focused on using the tools and buttons in studio that I never even thought of doing a notepad edit.  That said, because the dson file opens in notepad as compressed, I suppose I'd have to save the original file uncompressed to be able to do a swap out edit.

That's always my suggestion too ... rather time consuming to have decompress files BUT it is possible using 7zip. Extract to "here" and then add .txt to the end of end. Do the editing, or find the lost textures, whatever. Then save it as a .duf if wanting to keep it for D/S to use.

Right click on a morph item and check [Edit Mode].  Now right click on the item you want to delete.  Scroll down and press [Delete Slected Property].

winner. i was trying to replace an FBM with an updated version and simply deleting the old one didn't work, it kept showing a (2) next to the name whenever i tried to add the updated one under the original name (after a clean DS restart to clear anything left in memory)

deleting it in edit mode did the trick. thanks JoWa.
