The electricity has been out for over 24 hrs.

    sad

wow.. that's one of those things I (and probably most germans) have not encountered in my (their) lifetime... except for those unlucky ones who got caught in severe floodings and suchlike.

Actually, out in the country where I live it's a pretty common occurence if the weather is really stormy, it just never lasts as long.  The overhead power lines get blocked by trees thrown into them by the winds, mostly. Last time it happened for a bit longer was 2020 I think, no electricity for something like 4-6 hours. I went out and bought a small camping gas stove, and the minute I texted to say I was coming back from the store, electricity was back ;-)

It's bad in winter, because then the central heating can't power up either. But who has money for that these days, anyway ...

87F inside my house now at dusk by morning it will be 80F or a bit higher. When I lived in DFW I refused to use air conditionig because of the extreme costs. but, LOL, being in overheated steamy apartments wan't pleasant then and it isn't now, decades later. I at least have an small table model electric Hawaiian Tropic fan nowadays (that adds more to an electric bill then you'd think).

I am in DFW and ca't live without AC, no matter the cost. I can't sleep when it is hot, have the AC crancked up with the ceailing fan and a stand up fan on me in bed and it still isn't cool enough now.

I don't know how you all afford it. LOL. I hate an electric bill over $35 but nowdays because of inflation I have to pay $55. angry

I can sleep through anything apparently. I still know people out there and they say the last few years have been worse than that year in '96, Jul or Aug I think, when smoke from giant fires in Central America obscurred most of Texas skies with smoke from the fires.

...I'm in the Northwest where electricity supposed to be "cheap" because of all the Hydro power (...right) and my average monthly bill is 52$.  I dread winter as then I have to turn on the heat (which is electric) that cranks the bill up.  Thankfully I don't have an air conditioner, not worth it the short span of hot days we get here (if worse comes to worse, I'll get a day ticket and ride around on our LRT tram network which actually has good air conditioning did that when we had the two days it hit 112° and 116°).

  • UltraScenery - new territory [Commercial]

@ken1954 If you ever let Daz Studio install anything for you, that used Daz Connect. If DIM is your preferred method of installation (in my opinion, DIM is the best!) it is not necessary to ever log in to your Daz account from Daz Studio. If you log in, you are likely to accidently install something with Daz Connect. I strongly recommend that you change your preferences to disable auto login and never log in manually.:

    1. Go to Edit/Preferences (shortcut F2) and select the Startup tab.
    2. Uncheck the "Automatically Login With Remembered Credentials" checkbox
    3. Uncheck "Show Login Page"
    4. Click Accept.

Daz Central should not be a problem, if you used the same library paths as you used for DIM. However, I have avoided Daz Central completely. I use DIM only now.

First let's see if your Features Volume 2 and Stone Features got installed by Daz Connect. Follow these instructions:

    1. Open Content Library pane
    2. Expand the Product section of the Content Library
    3. Click on the letter U to get to the section that will have UltraScenery products
    4. Find the UltraScenery Features Volume 2 in the list
    5. Right click on the UltraScenery - Features Volume 2 product name.
    6. In the list of context sensitive commands that pops up, do you see Install or Uninstall in the list? If you see Install, don't click on it. If you see Uninstall, that means that the product was installed by Daz Connect at some time. So do click on Uninstall to remove the Daz Connect version.
    7. Repeat the same steps for UltraScenery - Stones Features.

Report back your findings about whether you had to uninstall either or both products from Daz Connect, and then we can take the next steps.

Glad for whatever help you can provide.

I am pretty sure that I did not install anything using DAZ Connect, because I've never really used it.

I am less certain that I did not use DAZ Central.  I purchased UltraScenery some time ago and then set it aside because my previous Mac didn't seem to be able to handle the scenes it generated.  Now, wilth a more capable computer (and knowing about the "Instancing" option in Render Settings.  Thanks, for that.) I am very impressed by the things it can do.  There was a period of time, proobably a couple of years, when I used DAZ Central a lot -- but within the past year or so, I have returned to DIM.  It seems to download faster, and it helps me to find my content afterwards (very useful).  But ... did I use DAZ Central to download UltraScenery or any of its components?  Can't be sure.

I don't know the best way to address that problem.  As I said, I opened DAZ Central and uninstalled the UltraScenery content.  Then, I opened DIM and reinstalled it.  I don't really know if that simple approach works.  Things always seem to re-install quickly, as if they have been lurking in RAM or on my hard drive somewhere, just waiting to be reactivated -- in which case the original problem may not have been solved.

BTW, I have copied my original content library to an external hard drive, and because of that I often do get warnings about "missing files," and sometimes I let DAZ download them for me from within the program -- but that never happened with UltraScenery.  Still, could some vital component of UltraScenery have been left behind after the migration?  I would not think so, because everything now is being re-installed to the new Content folder on the external drive, and there's no reason that would not work.  Everything else does.

If you would like to walk me through the DAZ Connect angle, I am willing to do that.  But as I said there really never has been a time when I used it.

I would kill for a $55 electric bill. Mine is usually around $130, but in the summer hits as high as $220 with the AC on all the time and fans going. My buddy has a house and his was $470 last month.

  • How to get Genesis 8 expressions working on Genesis 8.1

@DDCreate - ignore the stuff about the FACS folders, that's crept into the explanation that the OP copied here, but isn't actually correct to the method I originally tested.

The stuff about the Cloud folders is probably about Daz Connect installs, but if you used DIM or Central to install the packages, that's unlikely to be a concern.

Would be great to hear an official update on the status of this project. Think it's safe to say the announcement from last year was premature so it would be professional to dissolve some of the mystery surrounding the situation.

That's what gets to me; the lack of communication concerning what or when to expect something. I understand the M1 Mac is/was a new thing at the time but this process has taken so long that even the M1 Mac is now outdated! I've finally given up on the wait and uninstalled the Daz content on my M1 Macbook Air. I have the 256GB version and can't afford to just let gigs of Daz content continue to waste space on my drive for another 2+ years.

But Daz was able to get 4.x.x.x working on M1 machines, which is why they are not pushing for an early release on DS5 as they were - Install manager seems to eb better than Daz Central on the M1 systems, but once you have that and the current Daz Studio you should be able to work.

I have seen so many 'Database Problems', DIM and Daz Central clashes etc etc that I am glad I never stopped using manual loading of stuff. Helps with freebies from other places where the database entries are not filled in anyway.

Here's a good page (government site, not a tabloid) and that chart is an "uh-oh" moment. Scroll down and look at Pedersen Glacier. Or should I say Pedersen Park.

I know, about the first thing I checked when we moved close-ish to the baltic sea was the predictions of sea level increase for our new area ... There's some severe retribution from nature coming our way, that's for sure. I hope and pray that we'll see sense as a species before it's too late. Have started helping a climate protection organization recently with their texts (I was trained as a journalist aaaages ago) to be doing something at least, however small. And we've just gotten a really neat solar hot water boiler (is that even the correct term here?), two solar panels that attach directly to the boiler. It's quite amazing what's possible these days.

On a more positive note, how unbelievable was this ice dragon from your other post! It's an insect, right? It's a bit like these creatures living in the deepest sea, where no one ever expected any form of life to exist. There's life just about EVERYWHERE, right? Well, as long as we let it ... (I try to hold on to what the wise math guy in Jurassic Park once said: 'Life finds a way.')

I had solar panels with a backup system installed for my house and they're great if the power goes out everything except the stove, clothes dryer and central air still functions and my electric bill is less than half what it was before

    He perlk,

What would I have to do as a tester? I know nothing about SBH except how to buy it from DAZ, install it with DAZ Central and put it on the model's head. That's as far as my knowledge goes. If you could explain to me what this job entails, I would be able to tell if I can help...

  • Can't find "Daz to Blender" Add on in blender

Before attempting any convuluted searches and repacking distros etc etc etc try this if the Blender side is not showing the plugin. Install the plugin from Daz Central. In Daz under File - Send To - Daz To Blender when the dialogue box opens tick on Advanced Settings, you will now see the plugin installer for Blender. Select your version etc etc and you should be good to go.

I hope you can get your AC fixed soon

Complaint: I had new  heat pump system installed for about $7k about 3 months ago.  I couldn't really afford it but the old one died and would have been too expensive to repair. So, I had to do something. Yesterday It got to 90 here and the inside temperature got up to 81

Non-complaint: The AC service tech came and today the inside temperature stayed at the set 76 even though the outside temperature was once again 90

Ordered a new window unit...can't afford to replace the central air system. New one will be in on Monday, at least that's the current plan.  I hope it's correct.  In the meantime, it will be about the same on Friday (tomorrow will be slightly cooler, by a couple degrees, with threats of thunderstorms), but Saturday will be even hotter than today.  And it's only July!  August is usually the worst!  The new unit will cover the two largest rooms on the main level.  I have a small one in my office, so no danger of blue smoke from my computer!

    Thank you for your thoughtfulness!
