  • Daz Studio 6.25[.0.x], General Release!

    Sunkissed Papayas said:

I'm not one bit impressed by this release at all. First things first, I actually purchased a newly released pose pack for expressions that claims its Compatible Software: Daz Studio 6.x, Daz Studio 4.24 It actually only works in 4.24, how's that work.

Is it plain poses or does it use scripts (check the file type listed on the product page, or in the info tab in a content pane with one of the psoe presets selected)?

I actually loaded up Victoria 9 in DAZ 6.X and she looks more like a dude than a female. You'd think that if a company is going to release a newer program that supposably better and faster than the previous, the things they sell in their store would work in the new release. I've purchased alot of stuff through DAZ in the past year and some of it works and some of it doesn't. So, if some of it works and some doesn't that means there is a way to design the program to use those previous versions of stuff without the creators having to redo their previous creations. I've checked alot of my Genesis 9 Cgaracters and they all seem to be the same way as to looking like a dude. Seems to be less options in the parameters tab for customizing the characters too.

That sounds like a plain content issue - a morph is loading with a non-zero value even though it isn't meant to be applied. Load the Genesis 9 Base, is it the same? If so does Edit>Figure>Zero>Zero Figure Shape fix it?

Now I will say I do like the speed that it loads up the characters and the speed that it renders them.

Makes me wonder if all the Genesis 9 characters purchased in the last year or longer are going to not work and now you have to start spending more to purchase ones developed in and for DAZ 6.x. I've looked at some of the ones created recently and am not impressed by them.

Think I'll keep using 4.24 until all the bugs are worked out of this supposably new and improved version.

  • [Diffeomorphic] Massive deformations caused by poses and animations when using the MHX rig

That doesn't happen here, I tried the basic pose set for G8F on Victoria 8.1 and everything works fine.

    my steps:

    1. import Victoria 8.1 with the G81 preset
    2. convert to MHX
    3. import poses (from daz runtime > poses > import pose)

If this happens to you with any pose set then it could depend on the specific figure you use, or the import or MHX options. But we have to narrow it down to find the culprit. Please reply to these questions.

    1. Does it happen to you with the basic pose set for G8F. If not state a specific pose set and pose causing the issue.
    2. Does it happen to you with Vitoria 8.1 or G8F. If not state a specific figure causing the issue.
    3. Do you use the G8 or G81 preset for easy import. If not what are your import options.
    4. Do you use the default options for MHX. If not what are your options for MHX conversion.

One thing that comes into mind is MHX and rigify are not compatible with body morphs, so if the pose is using body morphs it doesn't work and may produce artifacts similar to those you're experiencing. But this would depend both on the specific pose and wrong import options as the body morphs are not included in the import presets.

    https://github.com/Diffeomorphic/import_daz/wiki/Setup_Morphs_Import_Body_Morphs

One thing you can do with body morphs is to bake them before exporting the pose preset in daz studio.

If ever you plan to having your settings like e.g. Favorites in the corresponding menu item from a previous version being migrated to Studio 6: forget it. I just had a revealing chat with their Victoria AI assistant. See the chat in the attachment.

    Here's also a transscript:

Hi there! You're speaking with Victoria, an AI Agent. I'm well-trained and ready to assist you today, but you can ask for the team at any time. I may make mistakes regarding certain inquiries. Daz3D's terms and conditions override anything I might say.

    Victoria • AI Agent • 5m

    Hi Victoria,
I am trying to getting accustomed to DAZ Studio 6, coming from the previous version: I do not want to recreate all my favorites in the menu Favorites. Is there a way to import them somehow from the previous version?

    • 5m

At the moment, there isn’t a reliable way to import your old Studio 4 Favorites into Studio 6. Favorites (and scripts) in the menu bar don’t carry over automatically, and it’s been an ongoing issue across updates.

What you can do is save your Studio 6 layout once you’ve rebuilt your Favorites, so you can restore that layout later. Just be careful with “Update and Merge menus” because it can wipe the Favorites menu again.

    Victoria • AI Agent • 5m

Is that what you were looking for?

    Victoria • AI Agent • 5m

That is very disappointing. Do I get this right that presently all individual settings are lost and have to be rebuilt piece by piece?

    • 4m

Yes, that’s right for now: your Studio 4 favorites (and scripts) in the menu bar don’t carry over into Studio 6, so they need to be re-added manually.

The good news is that some of your “work” can still be preserved. You can copy your user styles and user layouts folders from your Studio 4 AppData folder into your Studio 6 AppData folder, then load them in Studio 6 via the Styles and Layout menus.

One important caveat: using “Update and Merge Menus” can wipe the Favorites menu again, so it’s best to avoid that until you’ve rebuilt your Favorites.

    Victoria • AI Agent • 4m

    Did that answer your question?

    Victoria • AI Agent • 4m

I am afraid that you just confirmed my worst nightmares. I'll stick to the previous version, then. Thanks and bye.

    • 3m

I'm sorry to hear that this is disappointing for you. If you ever want to explore any other features or need help with DAZ Studio, I'm here to assist! Take care!

I, too, found it rather odd that a piece of software with thousands of customizations would not offer to migrate the user's work environment over to the newer version. That's like upgrading Photoshop and it not asking you to migrate the settings. Anyway, there is a way to do this. I did it in the beta and again with the release of v6, and it seems to work. FULL DISCLAIMER: I am not claiming this is supported, but it does bring 95 percent of my work environment over to Daz 6.  The instructions below are for Windows, but I presume that if you know the file locations on Mac, they would likely work the same way.

    1. Close ALL instances of Daz Studio 4 and/or 6.
    2. Ensure you have all your content library folders added, or your Favorites, Scripts, and Toolbars may not work (or be visible).
    3. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to %AppData%\DAZ 3D\Studio4
    4. Copy the following files to an alternate location
      1. customactions.dsx
      2. layout.dsx
      3. menus.dsx
      4. toolbars.dsx
    5. Navigate to up onw folder to the DAZ 3D folder. Click the Studio6 folder
    6. In the Studio6 folder, make a folder and name it backups
    7. Copy the following files to the newly created backups folder
      1. customactions.dsx
      2. layout.dsx
      3. menus.dsx
      4. toolbars.dsx
    8. Copy the files you saved in the alternate location from step 4 to the Studio6 folder
    9. Start Daz Studio 6.

Your Favorites and Scripts should appear. Layout and Toolbars may need minor edits (icon locations or changes to match and updates from your content library folders). Plugins from 4.xx that created docked panes as part of your layout will not be visible or available. The vendor will need to update or create a new plugin that is compatible with Daz 6.xx

You got a sword....just get in that temple and do your job ;)

...and yes...I know how horrible that sounds if you have not been around long enough for NVIATWAS

    really ...I am not a bad guy...honest

The original Victoria, who inspired NVIATWAS, was released in Feb 1999, and she looked to be about 30 years old, which would make her about 57 years old now, so she's lucky to be able to lift the sword.

Animte is not currently available, we don't know if it will be updated now that the SDK is available. Victoria is an AI chatbot, it isn't guaranteed to be right - and certainly isn't able to foretell the future.

Is the DAZ 6 SDK available yet? Wasn't showing up in Store or DIM for me.

It is, and I have it in DIM. I am not sure why some people are not seeing it, assuming you can see the DS 4 SDK.

Well, that is a major flaw in Studio 6 -- I use Animate 2 quite often.  Will any of the other animation plugins, like Anilip 3, also be Studio 4 only for the foreseeable future?

There are no PA made plugins available until the PAs rebuild them. Most will also require coding changes. So it will not happen quickly.

Actually, can I just check, as it seems people are using this seriously now? Is the expectation that this is usable on a 5090 with the viewport set to iRay? I mean that when you move things likke lights in the viewport, or move a figure to see how it affects shadows, you don't have to wait a few seconds. Victoria is telling me it doesn't work and suggesting the sort of optimisations I used to make on my 1060. I don't believe AI as far as I can throw i usually, but who knows...?

So should I be getting a usable viewport? Somthing that I can see update quickly when I make changes? I just want to understand the expectation.

    Thanks.

From my own personal experience: I do my setting up in Textured View and use Iray Viewport to do a quick check. The viewport is laggy when moving stuff around in Iray Viewport, but that has been the case in 4.x as well. There is a Windows update next week, it may improve things if some reports from DS 6 users are to go by.

Thanks. Maybe it's just me, but for me, texture shading is fine for getting the layout approximately OK, but my scenes rely on atmosphere. Things like the interplay of shadows, depth of field, SSS cubes to get "God Rays", subtle reflections... For my work at least, this is what makes of breaks a render, but of course that's not to say everyone works in this way, or renders the same sorts of scenes. It's art, there's no right or wrong. But for me, there is no substitute for working in iRay and if I can't do that sensibly, It's kind of the point of having a big card!

The 3090 in 4.x was not like this. The only compromise I occasionally made on the 3090 was hiding the SSS cube when it wasn't needed, but that wasn't due to lag. That was convergence speed. I had no issues at all even running with strand-based hair fully visible. To be completely brutal, even the 1060 was OK for lag. It just ran out of memory!

So in general, it was responsive and I could easily work in iRay. The reason I switched was that I needed to go mobile. I was thinking that maybe I would hit thermal issues after rendering for hours, and might need to look at extra cooling, but that's not the issue here. Temparatures are fine, and the machine can perform other GPU-intensive tasks just as well as the 3090.

    Replication steps:

    • Add G9 to viewport.
    • Go into iRay.
    • Move viewport.
    • Nothing happens...
    • ...after a few seconds you see the change.

It's not being fussy, it's really that bad.

I'll waif for the 9th. Is there a KB for the fix that is expected to help or any more information?
