@vrba79 @csaa and @tdkrobert , Awesome images !!
Here another experiment and Direct render ( no postwork this time) using my pwtoon freebie (!JSFlat) . Play with rim Color mode to get nice color gradient in clothes surfaces . BG is simple design and used as Environment Backdrop

This is stunning! No postwork? WOW! Color me impressed!
Do you have a webcomic?
More Non-photorealistic Renders (NPR III)@WillowRaven if you have pwToon here the link I also have another preset for smooth style toon . If you have problem with those presets feel free to ask in those thread
@vrba79 I kind agree with you about extreme setup to get NPR with IRAY , since lighting in IRAY designed for smooth shadow to enhance realism , in contrast NPR depend on hard shadow with simple shape and placed in proper areas . I do believe this shadow things ( which in final outcome presenting as shading) makes "break or work" for NPR . But there is always solution if people not thinking that postwork is forbidden LOL
More Non-photorealistic Renders (NPR III)I do have pwToon from way back when ... pre-iray.
More Non-photorealistic Renders (NPR III)Well PWToon isn't free, and is no longer sold, so if you don't already own it, the preset freebie won't do you any good.
There are other options. DzDefault is halfway decent toon shader that comes with DazStudio. I've worked with it extensively. There's also Visual Style Shaders, which is still for sale. If you want to go the IRAY route, there's Sketchy, and not much else at the moment.

I really like that one ... where does one get the free pwtoon you mention?

I can't seem to find the PWtoon shader in the store for some reason.
Is it still available?
Sadly pwToon not sold anymore .You can ask DAZ support if possible to get the copy . Last version I`ve worked was 4.16 and have no problem , not sure about 4.20 though since I never upgrade

Problem with dForce Hula outfitGood question. I converted it to 3DL, and it still shortens/lengthens and renders properly. Do you see these properties on the Surfaces tab? (see attachment). The only one that changes with different lengths is "PS Reduce Amount".
If you don't see those properties, how did you convert? I just used CTRL-double click to apply the basic DzDefault 3DL shader and chose to ignore surfaces. All that simulation info was retained.
I don't think other shaders on different items in the same scene will affect the skirt grass. pwToon is a variation of the 3DL shader, so rendering in 3DL should work properly.
Problem with dForce Hula outfitI verified everything as per illustrations, and no result. What could be wrong?
I do recall trying to convert this outfit into Genesis 3 version using the RSSY clothing converter. Plus, the grass may not have shown because it was converted to 3Delight. Could that have caused the problem?
I also tried to render using a figure that has a pwToon render. Could that have resulted in a failed render.
Sketchy Toon or Graphic Novel Shaders and LightsAs Hylas said, Iray is designed for photorealistic renders, and therefore you're kind of working at cross purposes if you try to use it for toony/NPR renders. Also, using something like pwToon or VSS in 3Delight will render much faster than anything you could do in Iray (except for hair, which can sometimes take forever for reasons that I don't know enough about 3DL to guess at).
Sketchy Toon or Graphic Novel Shaders and LightsThere was a good discussion of toon-style shaders a while ago, (wow, time flies) what happened to pwtoon?
Daz Studio 4.20[.0.x] Pro, General Release! (*UPDATED*)Well, I'm pleased to say that 3DL shaders like PWToon still work just fine.

Test render for my upcoming pwToon Freebie . Hope I can finish the guide tommorow so you can play with it
I have just downloaded your pwToon shader presets struglling alittle on the multipass not really getting goood results I am just learning still. One question, how do you get the flat backgrounds in these picture. I only get transparent backgrounds in 3delight. is it just a matter of puttig a dome on and changing the colour? is it just a basic background flat colour image, or a light preset? sorry im very very new to 3delight and toon style renders. You guys all seem very knowledable in your renders and just readig through this forum. I have learnt heaps
Go to Menu > Windows>Tab > Environment . Then Choose Backdrop in Type option . Now You can set background color as you want . Make sure that option which said " Visible on Render " should be ON
I mostly setting the BG color first before edit or fine tuning everything . It helps me to get oveal tone I wanted . Sometimes lighter toon color is very hard to setup if the BG not match /clash
If you have question about those presets You can ask in those freebie post , so we`re not cluttering this awesome thread :)

Is there any way to still obtain PWToon somewhere?
If not, you might consider Visual Style Shaders, which can give you similar looks, and personally I find it easier to use.

Testing new pwToon preset and check how easy to get look i wanted in Photoshop
What new PWtoon Preset is this? is it in the original PwToon shader kit?
Check this Preset Freebie in here and here . Please check the user guide so you can understand the basic idea of it and to experiment if needed . NOTE : those preset need you have pwToon ( which sadly not in DAZ store anymore) .
Have fun
