  • Eyebrows!

Finally got a chance to do some testing and lined up a comparison on Victoria. All the relevant characters scripts etc. are using their default settings (didn't tweak any masks or change to alternate shapes or colours.) For reference the original image was 1600x1800 and rendered in around 3 minutes for the image based ones, and 4 minutes for the real eyebrows.

You can see a little weird banding across that might need some postwork touching up, but as you can see from the first image, this is a problem with Victoria's base texture and not the scripts. Also on a white background so you can see the mesh eyebrows standing out. I really wish the product page for Real Eyebrows stated more clearly that they were fibremesh brows and that the adjustments were all standard morph sets - I would have saved a lot of time having to go to forums and hope someone could tell me how the product worked, potentially losing a sale.

  • Where can I get a running cycle for Genesis 2... Brodie6?

I've tried using my old BVH files, but one of them (believe it or not) scrambles Brodie's head into his crotch...

Tried to find Aniblocks/running, but can only see for sale Victoria jogging.

    Any gidance gratefully received.

  • Purchase Upgrades?

If you purchased e.g. Victoria 7 within the past 30 days you could return it and but the Pro Bundle.  If it's been more than 30 days you could submit a ticket to Sales Support and see if they would arrange something for you.

  • Purchase Upgrades?

I'm not sure exactly what you are meaning...because since the advent of DS4 and the Genesis line of figures the 'model base' has changed and the various Victoria (5, 6, 7) are now morphs for the free base Genesis (Genesis 2 Female, Genesis 3 Female) and not 'upgrades' to anything previous.

  • Novica & Forum Members Tips & Product Reviews Pt 7

She does have a lot of options. Sometimes I'm really surprised when I go into thumbnails, as to what's included with some of these characters. The main promo may show a docile sweetie then you get into heavy-duty warrior makeups in the thumbs.

Here's the pavilion again from Oriental Breeze Pool, with Josina. To get better lighting inside the pavilion, point lights were used. I wanted a rather muted, going on dusk and the end-of-the-day feeling. (Apocalyptic-Outdoors set + point lights.) I just put a few of the Oriental Breeze Pool trees outside the shades, didn't attempt to make a scene out of it. Again, all shades roll up and down. A must have pavilion!

EDIT: There is a light in the middle of the pavilion which will light the interior, but it was getting in my way and detracted, when using the camera angle I wanted.

  • Purchase Upgrades?

    Howdy

Fairly new at this and I admit - I only had a fleeting search of the forums - would we ever be given the option to purchase upgrades for the Models? I.e. Victoria has much better everything from the pro version, but I didn't know that when I started and only got the base figure.

I'd like to be able to go ahead and get the full pro package, without having to fork out for the same model base twice.

    Just a thought. :/

  • Geisha Builder for Genesis 2 Female, Genesis by DraagonStorm

I just picked up the Geisha Builder for Genesis 2 Female, Genesis by DraagonStorm and it says that the overlays are designed for use with the V5 UV mapping. I have so many characters, V4, V5,Genesis, V6, Genesis 2 V7, Genesis 3. How do you know what UV is being used. I used it on FWF Mayuree for Mei Lin 6 and the description says This product uses the Victoria 5 UV Maps. But when I appy the Geisha makeup, the lips and the torso materials are a little off.  Is there some adjusting that can be made to line that stuff up? First I used the Geisha Builder for Genesis 2 and then used the one for Genesis.  Using either script, materials are not lined up on the character.

Help us Poser fashionistas out and expand your earnings!  Since Genesis 3 isn't easily available for Posers users, please make new and existing fashions backwards compatible for earlier Daz figures including Genesis 2, Genesis and Generation 4. I still like getting down with Michael and Victoria 4. Genesis have too few clothing options that don't look shrink wrapped. Thanks!

Is there any way to make Victoria look like she is anorexic?

Yes if you have Body and Head Morphs. Find the ones that say thin. Set the maximums to 200%. Set the morphs to the new maximums.

  • Ultra Detailed Displacement Maps for Victoria 7 - Question

Ultra Detailed Displacement Maps for Victoria 7 seems to be a good product but I have a question, are the disp maps seamless? Means, If I just use the torso disp map will I have visible seams (edges) on the torso / limbs area?

If you use ANY displacement maps without the 'matching' maps for the other regions, you will most likely have seams.

  • Help needed for the newbie

    Hi guys

I've just installed Daz 3d and I'm eager to get started, but I've got a couple of problems.

First of all, I've Victoria 7 in a zip file on my Mac, but I've no clue how to install them correctly. Also, afterwards, nothing from the bundle shows up in the smart content. Do I have to create the metadata myself, or is there a shortcut?

If you guys (or girls) could help me, it would definitely be appreciated.

PS: This topic is probably already talked about, but I'm buried in all the information

  • Despite Studio's Popularity, People Still See 'Poser Art'

#1) You cannot define art. That is the cusp of where this goes. Art is what people make it out to be. If you want to talk about Daz, there are plenty of "Ready to Render" scenes set up by PA's for sale here. Load up your ready to render scene, load up your predefined figure with predefined poses, and hit the render button. How many clicks was that? Daz is indeed getting to that point where it is all one or two clicks away. And that is fine! So the question is...is that art? Well, yes, it still is.

#2) On the subject of screen shots in gaming. All games on PC can have screeshots taken. And pretty much most games on consoles can as well. The ps4 even has a "Share" button specfically for this, and the Xbox One has a similar function. Skyrim and other Besthesda made games have extremely vibrant communities. After all, 25 MILLION people have Skyrim just on PC. That's not counting consoles! And Skyrim has a very dedicated modding community. There are a lot of mods that basically beautify the game, as Bethesda's base is quite ugly (kind of like how Base Victoria 4 is kind of ugly.) You have to install all these improved textures and lighting packs to make the game look better (not unlike Victoria 4!!) Some dedicated modders have even created full camera and posing systems. Taking these screentshots is no simple task. You have to install them, and know how to work them. You have to know the game! You can't just dive in willy nilly and do it. You have to pose your actors, set the lighting (keep in mind the game has an active time system, time is always moving.) It frankly is not so different from Poser once you break it all down. I doubt many people here, even well trained Daz experts, would be able to just jump into the Skyrim scene and create great pictures right away. It takes just as much skill as it does for Poser/Daz. End of story. The only difference is the picture renders instantly. There are some freakishly good Skyrim pictures out there, pictures that can be confused with Poser or something else (sorry, Poser experts.) They certainly don't look like any ordinary game screenshot.

Even the other games you mention still require proper set up. Like GTA. Most pics in GTA require a LOT of planning. After all, it IS a video game, and it is going to take some know how in order to get a game to set things up. GTA is extremely random. If you want to create an interesting scene, you have to create it all. You want to create an explosion, you gotta make that explosion happen and time it just right! Sometimes online, this requires lots of people doing their own part.

Creating art from video games is very quickly becoming a thing. It has become so popular, that Nvidia created special software JUST FOR SCREENSHOTS with the release of its 1000 series. They call it Ansel. It allows you move the camera around and take a picture that vastly exceeds the resolution of your screen. You could even go up to 40,000 pixels. Try doing that with Iray! HA! And as gaming graphics get better and better, more and more people are doing this. You still have to line up your shot and consider the composition, just like you do in standard photography. It still requires planning. The tools are getting easier, yes, but that does not make and less of an art form.

To look down on gaming screenshot art, or XNA art, is no different than having a Maya user look down on Daz. And part of this comes down to ignorance. Neither of these posts are particularly well informed, I mean, the first didn't even play those games. Not trying to insult here, but it is easy to put down what you don't understand. Even as people jump to defend Poser/Daz, I see many posts still all too happy to define what they think is bad art, or a lesser art form. People who want to exclude others from their level. Lets not do that folks. This leads to my next point.

That "Poser Stigma" thing. This is no different than the so called "PC Master Race" of gamers looking down on "Console Peasants." It is Elitism, pure and simple. People who think they are better than somebody else just because of what they use or how they do it. They got the $800 software on the multi-thousand dollar machines. You can list all sorts of other reasons and excuses, from the skimpy clothes and style of art that sometimes defines Poser users, but at the end of the day it comes back to Elitism. Just like jocks might look down at lesser atheletic people, this is the geeky equivilant to that. Most people like to feel that they are better than others at something. Its kind of human nature.

Finally, I'll say that one of the things that drew me to Daz Studio was SKYRIM. That's right, without Skyim the video game, I wouldn't even be here. It was through Skyrim that I became inspired to look for something like this, like Daz. That is also why I believe Daz needs to court people who are doing that kind of art, the screenshot and the XNA crowd. There are people who already use Daz to render their XNA created scenes. These people are potential Daz customers!

Well said...I originally got into DS when I hung out at Canadian Ice's forum years ago...it was just before Oblivion came out. The group included Matty Manx(who started me off on this track) Neil V and Sickleyield. Many of us got interested in 3D through mods and modding. So not only potential customers but also potential vendors. All three of those people now are CA's at Daz...

Just some food for thought...out of all the people who paint in the world there is probably only 5% who are considered great painters. Why do we expect that ratio to be different for 3D or any other art form?

  • Convert Head OBJ Model into a morph for Genesis.

    FaceShop is now HeadShop http://www.daz3d.com/headshop-10-win

Various modelling tools have ways to project one mesh onto another, which could be used to fit the Genesis x head around the desired OBJ and then load the result as a moprh.

That's great but does this new version support Genesis 1?

    I don't know.

I do know. It does FULLY support ALL Genesis basic figures (1, 2 and 3). Derivative morphs (Victoria 6, Michael 6 etc) are still supported, as well as any other Poser figures in the Import OBJ mode (which does not support only two functions: aging and weight).
