  • The morphs group which wouldn't die [Edit]

A while back, I tried to recreate in G8F a group of several morphs initially made for G3F and I managed to convert these shapes just fine. Somehow, later in the process, I had these morphs committed to G8F with the Morph Assets function. They appeared as a group we'll call "first-attempt". The "first-attempt" group was visible on the parameter pane when I would load my G8F (and G8.1F too somehow). That was fine.

Later on, I managed to create better morphs. I deleted the "first-attempt" morphs from my drive (and I really combed it to be sure). I tried to inject the new group "second-attempt" and these, remember, are a modified version of the first batch. And this is where it goes wrong: both groups now appear. If I delete my new batch of morphs they also both disappear.

How can I prevent the first group from coming back?

A lesson well learnt: always check the morph file for name errors in the folder label.

  • how to apply a .dsf file to a figure?

A file like that I would open in a text editor and find out where it thinks it is located [data > DAZ 3D > Genesis etc > Morphs > Name of creator > etc, and also where it is going to show up [check 'group']. Then put the morph where it should be. Then open D/S and load the figure, then look on the Parameters Tab for the new morph.

  • Face Transfer

I'll be honest.. I've been having some real fun in creating 3d characters out of photos of people I know.. I even used the android version of Faceapp to change the age or gender of someone and then saved/imported the image.. while it all depends on the quality of the image used, you can get the desired character you're after.. I found it very useful as opposed to attempting to do my own. I've yet to actually try it, but I believe you can save those character morphs that Face Transfer creates(?) but don't quote me on it. I think it's worth getting personaly.. but after all, this is just my opinion lol smiley

  • Can daz animations be used in other 3d types of programs?

Yes, you can use it in blender. I think with the daz to blender bridge you can export it with the animations already or if you use diffeo, save the animation as a pose preset, import your figure but leave the skeleton as is and use import action and it'll transfer. You might have to clean up some stuff with arms but you could just highlight the rotation axis that is off in the graph editor and move the entire curve up or down until it's right and you're good to go. I think all the other daz to whatever bridges export animation keys as well but I haven't tried them.
Honestly though, if you're going to animate, just animate in blender or Maya and use a proper IK rig to save yourself headaches. I animate in daz for work daily but I waste so much time trying to get things to work how they should when I know in blender or Maya it would take seconds to accomplish, and I use those two programs for my personal projects.

  • Shaders and Bridging

No, this is exactly what I was looking for, thank you. It gives me a good rundown on what to look for, how much work I'm looking at in doing a transfer for different applications, etc... I've been doing this since before DAZ existed, so it's not overwhelming. ;)
(It's just that I drop in and out of working in this environment depending on what life is handing me at the moment, so have to come up to speed on a regular basis.)

Btw, I'm using RSSY's script for my initial pass on upgrading. I haven't broken down exactly what it is/isn't doing yet in detail, just did a quick upgrade/transfer then finished tweeking the results in Blender. I got good results but thought I'd ask before trying to reinvent the wheel in finding a workflow (set) that fits.

Forgot to mention, I'm doing environments mostlly with this as I've been using 8.0/8.1 chars so far. Any (people type) characters I'm planning on upgrading to 8.0/8.1 anyways if I'm still using them.

  • how to apply a .dsf file to a figure?

I recently downloaded a GF8 full-body morph as a .dsf file with no instructions. I have searched for instructions on how to apply the morph but have not found anything that works. If I merge the file with the figure noting happens. Also I placed it in \DAZ 3D Library\data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female\Morphs, had the conent library scan known directories for files, but it does not show up anywhere under the shaping tab.  If somebody gives you a morph in a dsf file, how do you use it?

  • Character Mixer, How to add morphs

Hello, I have got Character Mixer from the store recently. It works great. But I have problem to add new morph. I have transfered morph of minotaur from G2m to G1 using Genesis Generation X2 converter.

New converted morphs go to D3D Gen X folder, but they seem not to show up in Character Mixer. Also I am not sure if possible to add new morphs how to  label them realistic or stylized.

  • EJ Face Morphs - Discontinued product or no longer supported?

I have the G8F version of EJ's Face Morphs and absolutely love it.  I realized I don't have the male version and went to buy it but it appears the products have been discontinued?  The docs page exists but the store page does not.

    http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/53205/start#:~:text=Product Information,-Required Products: None&text=EJ Face Morphs And Details for Genesis 8 Male(s,have%20for%20Genesis%208%20Male!

I don't suppose there's any way to transfer an approximation of minor detail morphs like these from G8F to G8M is there, even if it's not perfect?  This is my absolute favorite collection.

  • All the cool clothes are for older figures

thing is, it all can be done

    by the PAs

they could try reselling G8.1 versions

there is plenty of projection options for the HD mesh as long as one can create the morph

hell I can even project most of them onto V4 etc with Zbrush and there is better softwares out there specifically for that

it would be nice though if DAZ or a PA working with them did release another iconic shapes collection from previous generations with their HD morphs

I will admit to not being a good customer for 8.1 though

if I ever can afford the hardware needed and get over some differences I have about Crypto (say they make it environmently friendly for example), that might change

You can force most of clothing onto newer figures. Only real problem are heeled shoes. We have autofit clones, scripted converters, mesh graber, fit control and ultimate fixer morphs... Most of things can be forced on G3 and G3.

And then, there's in some cases the option to convert the character instead of the clothes.

I'd like ability to completely convert older characters to G8/8.1.  Especially G3 ones. UVs are same with G8, but of course HD morphs can't be converted so there's no point in even trying with some of them.

Anneka and Damien don't have any non-prettyfied devilish equivalents, but those characters take most of their detailing from HD morphs. Tara 2 and Torment are not valid replacements because they are too nice-looking.

Satine G3 takes most of her aged body details from HD morph as well. Does not look well at all in rim lightning if aging details are done with normalmaps only.

Bethany 7 has unique body type, but to fully work this character needs HD morph as well.

Rune 7 is a muscular type that also need HD morph to work best (although with this one I'd applaud if the artists didn't equip her with permanent silicone breast armor).

Sure all of them are usable as G3 just fine... Except for their shoulders, armpits, biceps and elbows looking bad in certain poses because G3 rig and JCMs look plain obsolete when placed side-by-side with G8+.

None of those characters will ever see G8+ reissue so ability to truly convert them would be nice.

You can Nuke them if you want, but it might help if you knew what it was you were Nuking.

In this case it's the modifier call to load and dial up the Mouth Realism HD morph, that morph is part of G8F's Starter Essentials and is used in most characters.

In this case it would appear that the vendor has made an ass of things and got the pathway wrong.

ah, i think i see what you're getting at - i thought that Sisi had written a new block of code, but really she has just hijacked an existing one, is that right?

i pulled a plain vanilla Alexandra 8 from the library (that's what the above figure is, with the Sisi reference in it) and saved it as a subset then had a look through that, and oddly enough there's no Sisi but there's me in there. or more accurately, a reference to my Face Transfer preset (which adds about 10 helpful morphs for setting up FT figures.)

    "url" : "/data/Daz%203D/Genesis%208/Female/Morphs/clivewil2/FT%20Basic%20Setup/PHMMouthRealism_HD_div2.dsf#PHMMouthRealism_HD_div2"

BUT none of my FT Basic Setup morphs were present in the Alex 8 in DS e.g. they are found in the .duf script but not found in DS's Currently Used parameters tab

i'd never use that FT preset on anyting but a new FT figure, in fact it's an older unused version, hasn't been loaded up in eons - so how did it get inside Alex 8?

  • Weird shadow? line appeared

I'm having a bit of trouble, for some reason starting just the other day a weird line has appeared. It goes straight through anything I place in the scene.

It can only be seen when I switch to iray to render. It will sometimes disappear if I use harsh light in the scene  but I'm not sure why this is happening. it will also sometimes disappear if I randomly change a morph too.

I have never had a problem with the program before this week.

Sven, this looks like a general corruption of some of the morphs.  The "Torso Length" should not be scaling the arms and the head in the way it is.  Because the morphs themselves have been corrupted the geografts will not work correctly.  It might be worth uninstalling and reinstalling "Genesis Starter Essentials" to get Genesis working properly again.

Yeah exactly! A question: Those morphs are apparently not part of the starter essentials? Think they were part of some Genesis Evolution pack? Well I have to try what you said, as getting rather desperatesmiley

Yes, it looks like they came with Genesis Evolution: Body Morphs.

Thanks! I'll update my ticket and ask them to look into that. And I'll leave the essentials for now and re-install that morph pack. Will report my findings;)

    leonardo_3285321d said:

Is that possible without any plugin? I don't remember well, but with Genesis 3 I think there were more morph and a slider to control the aging. Would be great to have more slider in new generations too to have completely customizable figures.

Not sure what you mean by "plugin" but the @Zev0 products for making characters age (older or younger) are pretty good and are morph sliders as you say.

  • All the cool clothes are for older figures

...yeah, I'm in the same boat here with G3. I probably have at least as much invested in morph, shaping, and other merchant resources as I have in actual characters. I also agree that cross generation fitting even with autofit still lends itself to fit issues, particularly since a number of my custom characters for my writings are more slender and petite instead of the standard fashion model hunk or pinup most clothing  content is modelled for.  The issue with clothing fits and characters who are more slight of build (particularly female) has been an issue since I started here a long time ago.  It seems clothing is created for certain "ideal" shape but stray too far outside in any direction from the "Daz norm" for a person one would more likely see while walking down the street, and that's when things begin to break down.  Hence I often have to go into the hidden parameters and JCMs to make what corrections I can.

dForce theoretically would make the process simpler and less prone to distortion, but without state of the art hardware, sims are just too bloody time consuming.  It still isn't the "magic bullet" either as hard items like buckles, clasps, zippers and buttons that do not have rigidity designed in tend to deform badly (this also happens to an extent in conforming clothing as well) and I've sene collisions between say leggings or sleeves and with the character as well, even in poses that are not extreme.which sometimes abort the process.

To tell the truth I don't think issues with clothing fits will ever be totally solved without the individual artist such as Marble or myself creating clothing specifically to fit each custom character we create.  In the real world clothing comes in various sizes and shapes, but 3D clothing is a "one size fits all" affair that is expected to fit on an adult, a child, a heavy set person, a slender one, and so on.  Without being able to somehow mimic the "unstable molecules" created by the comic book character Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four™, 3D clothing fits will always present issues when deviating from the base figure shape.

  • All the cool clothes are for older figures

I've never had much success adapting previous generation clothes for G8. I have bought PA scripted converters and also tried it myself following tutorials from the likes of SickleYield but the success has been very limited. My biggest problem is probably due to my way of working in that I work exclusively with morphed characters - and I mean my own creations from morph dials. The more you stray from the standard G8 the more difficult it becomes to get converted clothing to fit - especialy when posed. The other problem is that most of those legacy clothes are conforming and not designed for dForce and I will not accept artificially draped cloth.

So I have fairly expensive converters sitting in my library and rarely used. Mind you, I have lots of unused products in my library - mostly legacy clothing.
