  • More weird Daz issue makes product unuseable

Is the Content Management System working - entries in Smart Content, Presets tabs, Categories and Products in the Content Library pane?

Yes, everything else working fine, and funny enough, it didn't mess the entire content libray, some works as they use to, it ruined 25%-30% stuffs from my library

Haw are you installing your content, DAZ Central, DAZ Install manager (DIM), manually or do you install the content inside DAZ Studio, using DAZ Connect?

Do you log in to DAZ Studio?

Where is your content installed? (Show us the paths in Content Directory Manager, all of them like in the second attachment)

  • Daz Connect, DIM or Daz Central to install and loose stuff.

I have been using Daz for a very long time, Version 1. someting if I remember correctly. My nightmare is lately trying to keep stuff in one place, one copy.

What is the best one to use to install stuff, including software/plugin updates, etc.

If I understand it correctly the product info is in the meta data and the postgre DB gets created from the meta data. So if I move stuff, I can update the meta data with the correct path and rebuild the DB and smart content will show me only one copy of a product and there will be no lost files or stuff that needs to be installed that is installed, etc. Am I correct with my thought train?

    Thanks in advance

Oooo, sounds cool. Have you considered trying to use Mimic? It'll be tricky but I think it could be done that way. Find a decent text to speach reader to speak your lines and save to an audio fil which you feed into the mimic input (to create the mouth movements in Studio for your character) then once that is done have Studio render it out to video and then add using a vidio editor add the audio file you used to the saved video. Although the current version only says it supports mic inputs and no file input, just create a virtual mic and then play your audio file though it to Mimic. You know, now that this has come up, I need to get back to playing around with Mimic Live and do this myself since this is why I grap it when it was on sale a whlie back in the first place.

Hi Alan. We will make the talking animation DAZ file for Gen 1,2 and Gen 3 available soon. If you have some time, you can even create this animation yourself. To do so, you can use our Gen 8 animation file to create the 23 frames in any Gen 8 character. Render the images in a folder. Then, you can open your own Gen 1 or 2 character in DAZ, set the animation timeline for 23 frames, and adjust the mouth shape of each frame starting with frame 01 (frame 00 is used for the neutral mouth position) using the rendered images as a reference to each frame. After you have your 23 frames with the mouth with the proper shape, you only need to render it and use the DTalks! Avatar Editor to convert into a DTalks talking character. This will work with people, animals, or any other character who has a mouth. To make your avatar speak aloud a specific text for you to capture and render into a video, you just have to add some text into a .txt file and save it in the folder \DTalks\queue\import  Just after you save a .txt file in this folder, the avatar will speak aloud its content. Then the .txt file is automatically deleted, and the system monitors this folder for a new .txt file to speak aloud.

sounds good... now I just have to wait until the eagle flies again...  because I can't be trusted with daz credits....
I figured all that had to be done was to convert the mouth morphs backwards....

It may not be the quality of Daz, but I wiil see what can I do.

Free stuff does't mean lower quality. A lot of freebies are high quality and a lot of expensive assets are just crappy. Daz store products doesen't always mean quality products. And IMHO the recent products sold at Rendo are really carefully tested before realeased on the store, I know that because I sell products on Rendo, They'll never anymore let (recent)  poor quality assets appear in their big choice of assets. Daz base their choices on images only (as far as I know). Moreover Rendo are now very strict with packaging and files structure (data folder, people folder, runtime/textures folder, documentation, props folders etc). The multiple ways of Daz installing possibilities (Install manager, Daz Central, Daz Connect) only lead to confusion and mess. I never use the (not so smart) Smart Content Tab. Content libraries are easy to manage and do not need metadata.

Does anyone else have to replace their mouse more than once a year? The right button is no longer working on the one that I was using. Thankfully, I have a back-up, I can get through 3-5 in a year.

I used to have a similar problem... mostly back when they had the little trackball inside... the ball used to break a lot, but sometimes the infrared sensor would break or the scroll button would collapse on the newer ones... I also noticed that the wireless mouse flew further because it wasn't tethered to the computer, so more parts would come off on impact... you definitely can't slam newer mice into the desk as much as the old ones, the plastic housings are much thinner and the screw bosses snap right off after one or two poundings...
Especially with the wireless mice, if the window is open and it clears the top of the shrub outside... if it lands on the concrete part of the patio and you start wailing on it with a crowbar, it's toast... and it's definitely toast if it lands in the fire pit and you pour gasoline on it and toss a match in there.
At least with the old trackball mice you could swing them over your head like a bolo and get some really good distance... if you managed to somehow dislodge those old PS/2 plugs without the whole plug and faceplate ripping out... but once you did... boy, those babies could fly... sometimes I could get them a good thirty feet if a bird didn't get in the way... and slamming...  the cinderblocks on the garage have marks on them from those...
Not like new mice that just evaporate like hamster tears in the hot sun.
You can't even hop up and down on them or put on your stomping boots and give them the business...

But yeah... I had to stop doing that...

Not that I stopped smashing stuff that pisses me off, it's just that mice are more expensive now.

One mouse I'd never pass up smashing, that doesn't even have to do anything more than merely exist, is the old Apple G3 mouse...

    This abomination...

If you see one kill it... instantly.

I f*****g hate that thing... it's right up there with Hitler's mustache in my opinion, and about as useful too...  Technically, mustaches aren't that useful for much to begin with and I'm sure if you just had Hitler's mustache in a jar or something, it would be even less useful, and then of course if you did have the real mustache, some lunatic nazi mad scientists would definitely want to steal it from you like they did in that movie "The Marathon Boys From Brazil", or whatever the name of that movie was... the one where Dustin Hoffman finds a mustache in Central Park and his dentist turns out to be a Nazi who wants to clone an army of Hitler mustaches to take over Brazil...

That doesn't sound right... maybe it wasn't Brazil...

Whatever... The point is that mouse sucks and you should destroy it on sight.

But yeah... it used to happen a lot, but not so much anymore...

I'm not more calm or zen now, I just smash other stuff instead when I get angry... I'm not wasting perfectly good anger or meditating to calm down... that's bad for me... I just end up getting angrier when I meditate... I literally just focus on what made me mad in the first place... like I push everything else out of my mind except for that thing and next I know I'm beating a washing machine with a sledgehammer.

The caffeine probably doesn't help either... I think the coffee I make would kill normal people straight out... I don't know if I mentioned it before, but I make coffee three gallons at a time... I brew it in a huge pot and it's super concentrated... not like espresso, that's too damn weak... this stuff is a combination of several dark coffees and espresso, which I brew for like two hours until it's so dark, light bends when it passes near it.

Any stronger and it would rip a hole in space-time and suck the planet into the netherverse.

But, yeah... the three gallons last a couple of days, since I refrigerate it in these big jars I have specially for that... it's a huge pain to make, but they don't make coffee percolators that allow to to stuff that much coffee in them... not even industrial ones have a big enough basket... most of the big consumer models (for like parties and small events) have auto shutoff features... which is stupid, because how are you going to over cook the coffee to boil out every last molecule of caffeine?

Why am I talking about coffee?

Well... this started out about mice and here I am talking coffee.

    Life is strange.

  • CMS problems

You see products as not installed in "Smart" content because you are logging in to DS and when logged in, DS will check the DAZ servers, which products you have bought and suggests that you install them (again) within DS - This is not necessary.

If you are using DIM to install your content, there is no reason to log in to DS. Logging in to DS is only needed when you choose to install content within DS and then it will use another location for the installations. Any content installed within DS, will override content installed by all the other means (DIM/DAZ Central/Manual installation) even when the content installed within DS doesn't work (happens quite often)

Set your startup options in DS as in the attachment and uninstall all the content that has been installed within DS (in "Smart" Content using DAZ Connect)

  • CMS problems

I ran out of space on my laptop's hardrive. I bought an external drive and installed my daz content using the latest DIM (fresh download). When I fired up DAZ, I got the CMS error. Hit the "Start CMS" button and then attempted login. Got the CMS error again. Un-installed DAZ and reinstalled.Still got the CMS error. Turned my Norton firewall completely off. Still got CMS error.

My content shows up in the content library, not in smart content. Daz Central will install products correctly but not allow me to access them. Gives me a "cannot find product #### error

The first time it happened to me, I spent hours trying to fix it. Thinking that my Smart Content was broken. I wasted hours uninstalling and reinstalling and scanning hard drives. I wanted to save you the pain of that.

One thing though, don't mix DIM installs with DAZ Central installs. No good will come of that. Or is it DAZ Connect and DIM? I can't remember to be honest. I stick with DIM and manual, nothing else.

Anyone else having this problem?  And is there a setting or switch to adjust to make the smart content go back to its standard categories?

UPDATE:  Uninstalled the Moryen HD character through DAZ Central and the categories were back to normal when I reopened studio.  So, maybe something is wrong with the metadata included with the character?

Yes, I've had this happen with a number of products recently.

I thought the Smart Content data was lost, it actually drops into a sub-folder when the "bad" product is installed.

Check the sub-folders that are left, one will have all your data in it.

  • Mid-way through 2022 a new Sales Thread:Report Issues Here "There's Always Another Sale™"

This morning (10:30 a.m. Central European Time or 4:30 a.m. Daz time) I found an offer messaged to me of 72% off "Hundred of Artist Items" as a thank you for purchasing so many items during the Premier Artist Festival. Included was a link to a "Contemporary Artists" section containing more than 90 pages of items. There was no mention of when this offer would expire, so I assumed it would stay valid until midnight Daz time, which is 8 hours later than mine.  But having had offers vanish suddenly in the past, I did immediately purchase some items this morning, and then this evening when I had more time I returned to Daz and saw that the offer was still valid so I started putting more items in my cart (it took me a while to go through them all 90 pages of the offer and decide what I needed). Suddenly at around midnight (4 pm US Mountain Time) when I added another item from the offer to my cart I saw that the price was no longer 72% off and I then looked at the whole cart and discovered that I was now buying more than $500 worth of full-price product, which naturally meant that I was not buying anything more.  Obviously the offer to me must have been timed to expire at 4 p.m., but this was nowhere stated in the offer (see attached image)  So while I am grateful to DAZ for giving me this interesting offer, I just wish that they had told me when it would expire. Is it so hard to put the words "This offer expires at 4 p.m. Mountain Time" in a message to customers?

I don't have any timeline for a fix, but you have not been forgotten.

Using that as a reassurance that all will be well leaves a taste of "...but you could have been" in my mouth, which isn't something I would like to experience with a company that lives of my (and other peoples') trust and money.

A lot of people seemed concerned that they might not be on the radar, I was assuring them that they were and the issue was receiving attention (and a fix fairly soon afterwards).

That would be a bit more reassuring if it wasn't for the fact that this kind of issue keeps coming up constantly and DAZ hasn't even taken the most basic steps to deal with it, which would be A.) maintaining a 24 hour round the clock presence capable of actually noticing and fixing these things rather than waiting for normal hours of operation, or B.) at the very least changing store hours and staffing to conform with Eastern Standard time, which is home to over 47% of the U.S population and 63% of the Canadian by itself and, when combined with the Central zone, accounts for literally three quarters of the English speaking customers in North America.  That's a huge percentage of the potential customer base who are left hanging for hours every morning waiting for the DAZ staff to show in the office, and usually further postpones anything until later in the day because they're already at work while DAZ is still catching up on it's Zzzzzs...

Do you have other drives in your system?

If you install your content on C-drive, you are bound to run out of space sooner or later, so it would be better to have an other drive for the content (4TB external USB drives are good and cheap)

Another thing is - You do not need to log in to DAZ Studio, and if you install your content with DAZ Central or Daz Install Manager (DIM), you are saving yourself from lot of potential problems if you do not log in to DAZ Studio.

That is what I used. The DIM....because it allowed me to go through my entire downloads and install what I wanted. But it all went to the one drive folder. So now(since writing the original post) I have gone in, made it so one drive does not back anything up. Deleted the folder in my one drive.
Uninstalled all the stuff via the DIM.
I have been waiting to find out from this forum how to get this bugger to work.
I Have no other drive. Just my C drive.
    (I Utterly hate win11)
But I tried to install and...NO go again.
    What SHOULD the path be?
I know on my old puter, it was c drive, application data...yadda yadda...
